I’ve read a couple of posts that indicate taking FAR before AUD. What is the reasoning behind this and do you recommend it? I’ve got BEC behind me and am taking REG in February. Now deciding when to take FAR or AUD. Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated!

I had taken REG -> BEC -> FAR -> AUD. I thought it was a good order, though BEG/REG could be interchangeable.

Depending on your experience, taking AUD first would be OK. But if you are not experienced with financial statements, or auditing, I think you'll find FAR beneficial first then AUD. Why?

FAR looks at the financial statements, all of them, and what should be disclosed. AUD focuses on auditing financial statements (amongst some other stuff), and it's important to know what all the financial statements are, what should be disclosed, etc. to be comfortable with auditing. Of course that isn't to say you can't take AUD first, but I think you'd understand it better with FAR as a foundation.

It'd be like taking Business Accounting II before Business Accounting I. You may want to learn what a debit and credit is, before you're starting to prepare financial statements. (If you get the gist.)

AUD may have FAR topics in relation to auditing and/or in the sims. FAR is much more material and frankly more difficult. So it is also good to have an easier test last if you can :P.

For me the reasoning for taking FAR first is that this is by far the hardest exam. If you pass it you get it out of the way before your 18 months window even starts. Then passing the other exams is just a matter of time. It doesn't make sense to pass all other exams just to realize you cannot pass FAR and will eventually lose all other credits. Ocasionally I see other people “stuck” on another exam but I think the vast majority will tell you FAR is the hardest.
