FAR and a headache….

Well my exam will be on Friday. I have been grinding it out with reviews the past two weeks at speeds of 90mph. This morning I cracked the books at 9a and won’t finish until 8:30. Give or take some minimal breaks. With all of this cramming I am really getting a headache. Aside from a pounding head, I feel as though there will never be enough time and one could never be prepared enough. At times I will hit a page and go..”oh I need to review that”. Honestly I feel as though it just isn’t possible to take it all in. I have both gleim and wiley in front of me. One may expand on a topic more than the other and vice verse throughout the various topics, so naturally I gravitate towards the short and sweet versions. At this point I am a few hours away from being done for the night and now I feel that rushed feeling setting in. With the exam on Friday, my goal is to get some coverage through the test prep software. I will try to run a total of 8 quizzes (5 study units @ 30 questions) each. Is there anyone else out there feeling the heat as test day approaches in a few days? This is my second go around and I am getting whipped. I apologize for the long post, however I wanted to vent to fellow candidates and expect some feedback.

I have FAR this week as well. To be totally honest, I have to give you guys props for pounding out 8-12 hour study days. I haven't started my job yet, however, the max study time I put in each day is 4 or 5 hours tops. Personally, I just think after a certain period of studying I'm just not learning anything anymore (I'm just reading and/or doing MCQs without understanding what I'm doing…).

Anyhow, hopefully everything works out for the best for everyone sitting for an exam this week!

Different section, BEC, but I am right there with you! I test on Saturday and I feel like I still need to do a million multiple choice questions to feel prepared. I even debated pushing the exam to 10/1 but I am not allowing myself to torture myself for another month!

    rmm91909,

Yeah pushing it back = more torture. Sometimes you just have to jump in and take your lumps. I try not to do the 8-9 hour days too much…just towards the end. I usually do the 5-7 hour gigs on the weekends. I will feel prepared too once I mix it up with a final round or two of MCQs. Good luck to all indeed.

Scruff I am with you on that! I just hit 7.5 hours and my brain is shutting down on me! I can tell I am just getting things wrong because I am tired now. Think I might call it a day on the studying and read some notes before bed. Good luck to you both!

I can relate to the headaches, Gator. I've been doing 12-hour marathon sessions. I keep telling myself that it's almost over!

    Hang in there!

I can relate to GatorB8! – my FAR exam is scheduled for this Friday too. I am doing marathon study sessions and am feeling overwhelmed with info. Also, not sure from reading the other posts that I am studying the right material. I hope to pass but this is my first time so more than likely I will need a second, third, fourth etc to pass. I can only hope for the best. Good luck!

    Hello All,

I am kind of new to this forum and i am officially impressed that people put so much efforts and time to help each other in order to pass CPA exam.

I am right now studying for FAR, Since you all guys are all ready ahead of me in this journey and well experienced for FAR material and study tactics, can you guys please tell me that as per you guys how much hours or study time is required or needed in order to deal with this beast 🙂

Many thanks in advance, really need an advice in order to create my study schedule…

Highly appreciate your time and efforts.

I started studying July 16 and spend about 3-4 hours a day on week days, a couple hours on Sat and Sundays are always free of studying (can't deal with this crap every single day). So now i'm almost done with the final review and about to start doing as many MCQs and Sims as I can. You do the math.

Some people really take their time and prepare over 3-4 months, some only take a couple weeks (my personal respect to those).

My friend just passed FAR and would study every weekend almost all day and a few hours during the week. Took her 6 weeks.

@No_One – I took AUD in early July and am taking FAR this week. I actually didn't find out about this website until just before my AUD exam, but the one biggest thing I think I've learned/read on this website is to write down your own set of notes/review-guide after you go through whatever textbook/review course you're using. This is especially important for FAR since it incorporates the largest amount of information out of any of the exams.

Compared to AUD (where I didn't really write down any notes/outlines of each chapter), I feel much more prepared and have a better grasp on material now that I've gone into ‘Final Review Mode'.

Finally, as for the hours put in to study for FAR… Currently I believe I'm right under 150 hours. I'm using Becker and overall I feel like I'm prepared to take my test (Scoring a min of 85-90%+ on each chapter's MCQs). On the other hand, when I was at around 100 hours about 2-3 weeks ago I had to re-schedule because I still felt shaky on quite a few subjects.

Anyhow, good luck on preparing for the exam!

Thank you Kettik and ScruffmcGruff…for really quick response…

i am using the Becker 2011 material as well for studies. I am getting around 60% on chapter quiz..This is my 1st section of CPA exam…and this below 75% making me nervous about my studies…

I do take notes but i feel i am writing all most everything, so far i have filled up whole book with 4 chapters, i still dont feel good about it because at this point if some one asks me anything from prior chapters i dont even remember anything…

    It scares me…

Anyways Friends, Really appreciate your input i have pushed back my date from 30th Aug to 1st Oct…i hope i will feel prepared and be on my schedule….

All the best to all of you for preparation…

I average 17-20 hours a week. Twenty hours I hear is good measure, however it really depends on how effective and efficiently you are applying yourself to your routine of study. Since I work full time I budget 1.5-2hrs a night and when the weekend comes I can bank on a good 5-6hrs for sat and 5-6hrs on Sunday. I wish everyone luck. Remember to brush up on the IFRS stuff.

ps: I am using gleim test prep and Yaeger cram. Love the lectures.
