FAR 8/30 – What do you do if you fail a practice test?

Just took the Wiley CPAexcel practice exam and got a 50% unfortunately. Here is the breakdown per testlet:

    MCQ
    1: 48%
    2: 30%
    SIMS
    3: 70%
    4: 35%
    5: 87%
This tells me I need to focus more on MCQ which I plan to do in the days leading up to my exam. It also tells me that I may just have gotten lucky on the SIMS. But now my question is, should I take another practice exam or just study MCQ instead? And anybody have suggestions on how I should be studying until my exam? Thanks.

MCQ for sure! Hammer as many as you can. You aren't doing bad on sims. Maybe brush up on them before exam day, but for now you should be doing as many MCQs as you can. I do them in increments of like 30 or 50 to get a good trend going. This enables me to really see what areas I am struggling on. Good luck! Don't let that 50% get you down. I would score mid 60%s with Becker regularly, and I passed the exam just fine.

Cool that's what I'm def doing. Also do you recommend putting aside some time to review my practice exam or just jump into more MCQ?

I review the practice exam, focusing mostly on where I have problems with sims. you can focus on your weak MCQ areas with progress tests. Do you know what I mean?

I am pretty sure you know your weakness areas, hammer those topic by practicing MCq and sims. Also do not worry too much about practice exam, i never did good in any of my those practice exams.

I've never taken a practice test so I can't attest to the correlation between practice tests and actual exam scores, other than from what I've seen here, almost everyone seems to score higher on the actual exam.

Definitely hammer MCQs in your weak areas, and just be prepared to go through MCQs on the exam relatively quickly. I took FAR last August 31st after the first Q of the big SIM change, and while it wasn't the material that was overbearing, it was the amount. Prepare to go through tons of documents, and train yourself to seek out what's relevant to the task/question at hand within the SIM so you don't get overwhelmed. Also be prepared to be frustrated etc. but keep it moving. Just because you get a monster SIM or 2 in your first SIM testlet doesn't mean the others will be easier or smaller. I made that mistake and took my time, opened up the next testlet and thought it was a joke (as in, there's no way I'm expected to actually complete these in time after the first seemingly insane testlet). Nevertheless I made it out alive. Get a good night's sleep (as best as you can) and don't overload your brain the day before, best of luck
