I just find this forum last week. I will take the FAR on May31. Just started reviewing. I am using BECKER. There are a lot of things in the book. I dont think I can remember them. Last night I was reading F1 and there were a lot things. I spent 3 hrs but found I could not remember much things.

My question is shall I read every sentence? Try to remember them? I know this may be a silly question. but I need to admit that reading is my weakness.

The question is very subjective. Becker will “highlight,” no pun intended, all the information that can/will be tested. Did i read and try to remember every sentence, no. But, i tried my best to have a general working knowledge of the CONCEPT. Every person learns in a different way, so you will need to find the way that works best for you. Some pointers you will see throughout the forum:

    1. Work as many MCQ's as possible, a few thousand per exam. Given reading is a weakness, you will need to probably spend extra time working on this. Picking out the “Key” words is the difference between passing and failing.

    2. Make your own notes and/or use the NINJA Notes. A lot of people have had great success with them.

    3. Keep working through the material. It might not make sense now, but you will start to put it all together.

    4. Be well rounded. you might have depreciation methods on lock down and not see a single question on the exam about it.

FAR is one tough exam, many of us here on the A71 forum passed it last quarter. Make a plan, stick to it and you will start to see results. For more study/motivation tips read through the office study groups or i passed groups.

    Good Luck!

After I watch the lecture in Becker, I'll go through and write notes (basically, everything highlighted – so it's extensive) and read the chapter while I take notes. Then I'll just read over my notes and NINJA notes from then on. I don't remember everything I read, but everything I NEED to remember I've taken notes on (so it's started to drill into my brain).

    R - *77*(02/'13)-Becker & NINJA
    A - 71('11); *87*(04/'13)-Becker & NINJA
    F - *76*(08/'13)-Becker & NINJA - "server upgrade" survivor
    B - 60('11); *82*(10/'13) -Becker & NINA

    DONE, DONE, AND DONE.

I found studying for the CPA is like peeling back an onion. The first time you go though a section, you might get an ‘overview' type of knowledge, and as you move on to a new area of the materials, go back and review the area you just finished and suddenly you understand a bit more. This process is sometimes been referred to by other folks on this great site as ‘rinse and repeat' will help you to be successful on your quest to the CPA. Good Luck and study hard!

Thank you guys! As you said, i need to focus on Becker and go through with it. Make notes and try to peel an onion, then I will get the core—all the NEED to remember in my mind. I love this forum!

I wouldn't read the book, esp not every sentence. I'd just hammer MCQs.

Yea I've found that some of the MC's and the questions they ask actually are simple. You just have to read through the BS they throw at you. For example.. Doing income taxes and finding current provision for income taxes is a simple question but they give you all this info you don't need. After I work multiple choice I found that going over flashcards is really effective as far as formula memorization and calculation pounding.
