I have failed REG twice now while using CPAExcel. I really felt prepared going in the second time and I was pretty confident that I had done well when I left the testing center. I was wrong. I failed with a 72. I have decided to put REG on the backburner and start studying for FAR. I have not purchased any materials for FAR yet and was wondering what anyone would suggest. Please keep in mind that I cannot afford Becker. I was researching Gleim and Wiley. I really liked the format of CPAExcel, but I’m not sure if it is enough. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

    REG - 64, 72, 81!
    FAR - 77
    AUD - 79
    BEC - 72, 79! And Done!

I was in a similar situation.

First thing. If you want to take a break from REG I would suggest BEC instead of FAR. BEC is easier and has less information, so studying for it won't make you forget as much REG as would studying for FAR. That is of course if you don't already have credit for BEC.

As far (heh) as study materials, I only every used Gleim and can say that it is very decent. I think it is more condensed than some of the others as far as I know and farily easy to understand for the most part. It also has pretty good explanations for questions as well as good online supplemental materials (MCQs and SIMs). It took me twice to pass REG and others I passed from the first attempt and I would not say that I killed myself with studying.

    FAR - 85 November 2011
    AUD - 81 January 2012
    REG - 68 March 2012
    BEC - 86 April 2012
    REG - 92 July 2012

I highly recommend getting the Ninja Notes and Wiley Test Bank. It is said that the Ninja Audio is awesome too but I haven't used it. The price isn't bad and Jeff does all kinds of specials.

I just took FAR 3 weeks ago using 2012 Becker self-study and I was well prepared for the exam. I also took REG back in May with Becker and passed as well. If you can fork out the $$, Becker is worth your while.

    REG (5/31/12) - 90
    FAR (7/12/12) - 85
    AUD (8/23/12) - 91
    BEC (10/13/12) - 85

    Using Becker 2012 Materials, Self-Study
