Passed BEC in May 2011, so I am hoping to pass the remaining 3 parts by the end of November this year! However, I failed FAR again. Took it in Feb this year, got a 69. Took it in May, got a 74. I am using Becker. Wondering if I should just rewatch the lectures, work the MCQ’s, take the practice tests again…or if I should try the Becker Final Review for FAR or the Ninja Notes or even the audio? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!!

Have you tried the Becker Final Review? Last year I got a 74 on FAR and then did just the final review and next time I ended up with a 78. Not great, but passing.

Regardless, I would NOT re-watch the lectures except for the ones you need the reinforcement. Practicing MCQs is a more efficient, especially if you're under a deadline and don't want to lose any sections.

I agree with Angie. Don't waste your time re-watching any lectures, they are a waste of time IMO. I would just focus hardcore on Becker, and only Becker… they do a good job and I believe it's enough to pass. Go through all the MCQ's in Becker at least 2 or 3 times…review for a few days and you should pass. Make sure you go ham on MCQs, it's the best way to practice.

Angie! Did you get your BEC score yet? I'm praying for you! Did you use Becker for all 4 parts? How about the Final Review?

    @Brooklyn,

AGH, no score yet– thanks for keeping me in your thoughts. I actually used Yaeger for BEC, I needed an instructor (like Cindy Simpson) who works a lot of problems with you. For FAR I used the Becker Final Review, but originally Yeager, and for AUD I used Roger. That's when I was blogging for him/the course..

But everyone that has Becker has awesome things to say, and I it's what helped me pass FAR.

Hopefully this post goes through but I got a library book called “Intermdiate Accounting: Demystified”.

It helped me look at FAR in a different way.

    AUD - Passed
    FAR - Passed
    REG - Aug 20th
    BEC - TBD

    BrooklynD,

You should have tackled the hardest exam first so when you pass the exam your 18 months period will start from there. For most people, the hardest exam would be FAR or REG so it is wise if you start from there. If you are not able to finish all 4 parts by Nov 12, dont be discouraged. You will eventually pass all of them.

I used Becker as well so when I failed an exam what I did was I reviewed my notes per chapter. Then I tried doing the MCQ per chapter. From there I know which part I am still weak and I re-read the book sometimes re-watch the DVD. But don't watch the whole thing from the beginning, it will be waste of your time, only re-read and re-watch on the part that you don't do really well. Once you have reach a comfortable score for all the chapters (average 90% and above) then you can do the cumulative MCQ (100 Qs from the whole chapter). Do this multiple times (I did it like 10-15 times) until you reach average 80%. It gets really boring at this point since some of the MCQs you will remember the answer without even doing calculation on it but I suggest you still try to calculate them since you have to remember how you get the answer.

Becker Final would be another waste of money but you can try NINJA notes.

I attended the live Becker class in Oct & Nov of 2011 and did the multiple choice afterwards to earn the Becker promise. When I started studying for the actual exam in late December, I re-watched the lectures (I paused throughout it to read every individual paragraph and to make more notecards than those sold by Becker). After I all the lectures again, I re-worked all of the multiple choice. If I missed a question, I would copy Becker's explanation on to note paper so I could review it later.

I understand everybody's opinion to not re-watch the lectures but I did it and made an 86 on my first attempt at FAR. I guess it depends on how well you paid attention the first time and whether or not you understood what you've read. It helped enforce all of the concepts for me.

    Good luck!
