Is there any specific materials that focus on Foreign exchange rates? I used Yaeger.

I understand cost accounting very well so I feel confident in that area. I was disappointed that I didn’t have as much cost instead of theory about areas I am weak in such as Economics….GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Any suggestions would be helpful……..

Also is there a study group on here? I am very new to this so don’t know how all this works.

I like your method of bumping up your post…….

I passed BEC on my first try using Yaeger. Yaeger focused a lot of time on cost accounting which I had zero questions on. I was extremely frustrated after the test and was certain that I failed. I got a 79. From reading others' experiences, it seems like BEC is a shot in the dark. Keep taking it in each test window and hope for the best.

I only used wiley focus notes and the online test bank and passed w an 82 after about 3 weeks of studying. I had the wiley text book and skimmed through it but their is way too much info in the wiley textbooks.

Honestly, I just hammered multi choice questions on the test bank for the most part. I took FAR earlier in this testing period and passed just self studying w the wiley book, focus notes, and test bank. I used the book a lot more for FAR but learned after studying for a month that just hammering test bank questions helped more.

The wiley test bank is great because you can see what areas you're weak in and I'd go back through the focus notes on those sections and do multi choice questions on those sections.

Thanks so much for encouragement. @randomcpa I studied with Yaeger and was extremely prepared for cost accounting and I had maybe one mc on cost. So it is like Pandora's box you never know what to expect.

Pretty sure I am an expert at failing BEC–have done it 5 times: 67, 70, 74, 71, 69. I had been using Gleim materials but switched to Roger last week which I am liking much better, only wish I would have done it sooner. I have also switched to studying for FAR because I've got to switch gears before I have a mental breakdown.

I just failed BEC with a 59 and used Yaegar and wiley testbank but didn't do enough MCQ's… I had so many calculation problems on my test that the time got away from me and then I went into panic mode– regardless… I am retaking it in May… I have read some people had 5 calculation problems… I had at least half… so I don't necessarily think its a fair exam from what I've read. My test was Heavy in cost accounting which I suck at.

I am purchasing the Ninja Notes and will use them this go around- plus the Wiley book and Yaegar's cram course.. Personally I HATE the video's and have a really hard time making myself watch them. I cannot watch them a 2nd time.. I would probably have to take up drinking if I did… just sayin…

For Economics-I used KhanAcademy– its the website my kids use but it is SUPER helpful for economics. I hope that helps~ Best of luck to you on the retake~

Gleim really messed me up by sending me a nice free information book that I read and re-read many times.. thought it was a great addition to my current materials… IN IT—- was the wonderful statement that BEC was strongly non-computational… well… not in my case… my test was probably 50-50 if not more than that leaning towards the computation side. I wasn't expecting that many problems because of what I read in Gleim's book… I can't change that I failed but I am a bit sore with that company…

maybe some tests have only a few problems… but not all of them.. and because of that- they shouldn't write that in their study materials… it really threw me for a loop when I sat for my test.

I failed BEC on the first time with a 73 and I'm completely convinced that it was because I barely went through any homework and spent almost all of my time memorizing all of the formulas that are in the study material. When I got to the test, I knew the formulas but had no idea how to apply them. The second go round, I went through MCQ's like a crazy woman, doing them over and over and over again until I understood them backwards and forwards, which only took about a week (the week after Christmas when I wasn't working). I wouldn't waste too much time understanding the ins and outs of exchange rates but DO spend a lot of time on the complex homework questions such as variances, IT, economics, and all that finance stuff from Becker ch3. Also, don't waste your time prepping for the written part- literally just do the MCQ's over and over again.

Also something that helped me was going through the chapters that I felt uncomfortable with and making “quiz” pages to go with them. I would go through and pick out the specific acronyms that I knew I would need to know and various rules, and make a word document that basically was a few page long quiz. I would print out like 5 copies and fill them all out and after that, I really had memorized those acronyms or whatever was on that quiz. Don't rely on that alone though, do it before hte MCQ's so you have the foundation down and can focus on the complex stuff.

I used Yaeger with the Wiley book for BEC… I just skimmed the last two modules but I am good with economics and finance so I was able to make out okay. I highly recommend Yaeger with Cindy Simpson… she is really good; even better with FAR, but good with BEC as well.

Suggestions? Well, BEC is kind of all over the place in the sense that it tests subjects that many would consider not connected with one another, but I would recommend making sure that you have at least a couple of real strengths and then as long as you're sufficient with everything else, you should be okay. Again, for me those topics were economics and finance (and the written communications). I did okay (“comparable”) with everything else and despite a real lack of studying, ended up with an adequate score.
