Not long time ago, my cousin, who was taking a 2-day board exam in nursing, got a bad news from a family member after the first day of his test. He still managed to finish the entire test in that weekend. When the scores were released, he failed by merely 3 points. His grades show he passed all the parts on the first day and flanked most of the other parts on the second day. This tells us, he got sidetracked by the bad news which he heard and tremendously affected his performance the following day.
Here is my case. I am taking my FAR test in 6 days upon receiving the bad news about my sick 77-year old mother. Though she has no any major health issues, she’s been very sickly for insomnia and dizziness in the last 10 months. The doctor said it’s all due to old age. One day she fell in the bathroom and got hurt pretty bad. That’s when she started to need support to be able to walk. She was advised to just be in a wheelchair to keep her from falling again. She’s been in and out of the hospital for old age health problems. My eldest sister is taking care of her in the Philippines. Last week, she was recently discharged of the community hospital with nasogastric intubation for not being able to eat food and drink. She cannot see any more with her one eye. Last night was the first time I saw how my mother looks like in a picture, which my son showed me via FB. IT BROKE MY HEART. She is no longer moving and responding. People need to gently move her left and right of her bed once in a while to keep her from bedsores.
How do I tough this out? I’ve already laid out my study plan this week. I took time off from work this week, except Tuesday. I knew I would be able accomplish my study goals until I heard such bad news.
I need motivation from you people, current and future CPAs of A71 family. I know I am tough. Many people think I am tough. I am a bereaved Mom myself, however I am able to tough it out by the God’s grace every single day.
This is a new different crisis I am dealing now, a crisis of the unknown. While my mother is dying for her life now, I am going to face FAR, the beast (for the 3rd time) in the next few days.
