Expected changes in requirements to sit for the CPA exam

    Hello,

I am currently studying accounting at the university and know that upon graduation in 2015 I will need to take the CPA exam.

I’m aware of the current requirements (150 credit hours, a certain number of accounting and other business courses, etc.). But what about expected or known changes in the requirements for simply sitting for the exam? Will they change much?

I know that I have a long way until I actually need to take the exam. But I’m also aware that it’s important to plan your time at the university wisely so that you are eligible by graduation.

A friend of mine said he heard somewhere that soon you’ll have to have your master’s in accounting just to sit for the exam. Is this true? Is anyone on this forum more familiar with anticipated changes? A simple Google search didn’t yield as much as I had hoped.

Thank you all for your help and knowledge.

It varies by state. What state are you planning on taking the exam?

    It would be Illinois.

Also, somehow this ended up in the “FAR forum” section. Sorry about that. It was unintended.

I also might be in New York at the time.

    Does anyone know of any?

No one knows what the future will hold. Typically changes are known well in advance. Most states gave years & years of notice for the 150 credit hour requirement. But I can tell you this, a Bachelors will always be required so focus on your studies and get your accounting degree, worry about the rest later.
