They're extra costs that a business incurs after it determines that it wants to discontinue part of the business.

Examples:

1. Costs for terminating contracts early

2. Costs for paying terminated employees severance

If the exit/disposal activities qualify as discontinued operations, then the items woul be towards the bottom the statement. If they're part of continued operations, then they will be up in SG&A or COGS.
