Ethics Exam

    Can someone help me understand how the Ethics exam works.Like what do i have to do; how do i prepare, is it difficult etc.

    Moreover after completing with all the formalities with licensing and everything, will the license provide the signing authority as a CPA all over US or will it be only for the state under which i gave the exam.

    I can only speak on the Wisconsin Ethics exam….I know it is essentially ‘open book' in that they provide you with an electronic document that you can print out and utilize for the exam. You can save the exam at any time and come back to it prior to submitting it so it really is at your lesiure (if thats what you do for lesiure). 🙂

    I think WI runs it through their department of regulation & licensing….not sure what state your in but may not hurt to see if they have anything on their website that may paint a more accurate picture for you.

    I am for VA and when i contacted the Board they directed me to the the AICPA website to order the material for the Ethics which will cost me about $ 142.00 (including shipping).

    Could u tell me any cheaper way to get this done….Where can i go to get the electronic version?

    I am in MO and just took the AICPA ethics exam. It was about $100 for the paper version, so I am not sure about VA. But in terms of preparation, I started out reading/skimming the book. You can do the exam online for immediate scoring. It is MC and not difficult, but do note that you need a 90% to pass. The exam was 40 MCQs, so this means you can only miss up to 4 questions. After a while, I just started looking at the questions and then going and finding the answer in the text. It is open book and compared to the other exams, it is pretty simple. Also, I think you can try to take the exam online 3 times and if you don't pass by then, you need to send in the answer form via snail mail. Good luck!
