Employer can see how many times you failed !! :(

I’m in florida and under the state liscencing website…as long as you have your name and social security number (your employer will have access to it) the can see how many times you attempted and failed each section.

for some reason i was under the impression people can only see if you are liscenced or not……NOT how many times and the dates when you failed each exam. 🙁

this kinda dissapoints me because i will know that every job i apply to in the future can look up that i struggled so much with the exam and question my knowledge.

They will also see that you kept on the challenge even with mayor set backs and diss-encouragements… and that finally you earned your CPA license!

Don't worry about that now… Pass the tests and then worry on how to justify that if necessary.

Why would a prospective employer have your SSN unless they were running a background check? And even if they were doing that it would be the final step before being hired.

Chances are that employer had to take it multiple times as well before he/she passed.

well even if it doesnt affect me being hired or not…i just thought about the way i would be viewed..maybe as weaker since i didnt knock it out the first try. Most of my friends in public accounting are very competitive and are full of themselves if they heard one of their co-workers struggled to pass.

Private accounting is usually filled with general business majors who dont really even understand the difficulty of the exam and to think their main accounting guy struggled…i dont know..I know i'm over thinking all of this and really need to focus on passing my last section but i just found this out and it felt kind of like a blow.

Anyone who would do that to screen employment is a loser, and you don't want to work there anyway. Just pass it

Thank you for starting this post. Since I started this process, I always wondered if there were any “real” repercussions to failing it and if future employers would find out.

I can see why you're concerned about this. If you have a similar resume/experience as another candidate, and they're comparing candidates at the final stage, will that be part of the consideration?

I don't think it's a big deal..everyone knows how how hard the exam is..once you pass, you're good.

I also wondered about this.. I'm in Texas, for Texas:

CPA Exam – Authorization To Release Scores

The Texas State Board of Public Accountancy is often asked to provide score information about candidates to universities, CPA review course providers and employers. Statutory requirements prohibit the release of this information without the written consent of the individual. If you would like your score(s) on this CPA Examination released, please complete theAuthorization to Release Scores form. There is no charge for this service.

@DreamingBig — I wouldn't worry about it. Take it from someone who's passed all four parts of the CPA on the first try, it really doesn't matter. I work in public accounting, and I certainly don't consider myself any more knowledgeable than my co-workers who had to take a section more than once. At the end of the day, all that matters is the fact that you're a CPA. Congrats on 3 out of 4! 1 more to go!!

In actuality, I have heard first hand from employers that people who score very high on the tests their first time are often questioned more than those who had to take a part 3 or even 4 times before finally passing. Why? Because employers understand how difficult the exam is, and if you're scoring really high (say above 90) then most likely you are over studying and not using your time effectively. Of course, this probably does not hold up in actuality, because a CPA is a CPA is a CPA. Revel in the fact that you did not give up and now you are what seems like only a few months away from passing!!

I wouldn't take any employer seriously if they ask me about my exam scores.

75 is enough for the AICPA to make you a CPA, why should an employer be so interested in your scores or how many times it took you to get there?

I dont think employers are going to be looking up your exam scores. Thats like using your name, address, and ssn on your job application to look up your credit score. Unless you specifically consent to a background check that includes your credit report, they can't just use your private information any way they want. So unless you specifically consent to them using your ssn to look up your exam scores, then they can't use that information to do so.

Yeah you guys make very good points. I am just thinking way too much into it…for some reason i just thought that info wasnt available..but it is what it is. I have always been a straight A student in college and struggled with the CPA..it just shows the difficulty and achievement of being on another level when finally getting certified. Thanks every one and i wish all you guys the best of luck and being CPAs in 2012!!

My employer gives a bonus an EXTRA bonus if you pass all parts on the first try. We get a regular bonus for just passing. I have a co-worker that straight lied about passing on the first try. They sent this big nice email to the entire office congratulating her for passing all on the first attempt. lol. I think it is hilarious. Lying is not cool.

I doubt my employer knows that they can check…

    AUD - 2/24/12 - 87
    BEC - 4/24/12 - 80
    REG - 5/9/12 - 61 ; 10/29/12 - 70 ; 1/14/2013 - 85!!! Done!
    FAR - 7/28/12 - 78

Most every CPA where I work has not passed them all their first try. I do not feel bad about failing the first time. It was my first test, I didn't give myself enough time and I had surgery that left me in pain. I think passing at all is a wonderful accomplishment.

I'd let this be one worry you put to rest. I feel like that once you are past the newness of your license, no one is going to even ask unless they too are on their CPA testing journey.
