I completed my BS in accounting through a degree completion program offered at a local college. I was in a cohort and became pretty good friends with another member of the cohort that lives close by. We completed our degrees and decided to go through this CPA testing process together.

We probably had seven or eight different instructors while completing our degrees in the degree completion program. A few weeks prior to starting a new class, we would receive a syllabus. Included in the syllabus would be the instructor’s name and credentials/experience. A few weeks prior to starting our tax classes, we received the syllabus. Included in the syllabus was the instructor’s name and his credentials. Among his credentials were a B.S. in accounting, an MBA and a JD. I remember thinking,”this guy is gonna be tough.”

It turned out he was the least knowledgeable of all of our instructors and was one of those instructors that literally reads from the book, word for word. One time, he was counting and he said the following: “Nine, ten, eleventeen……” I swear that’s true. My friend and I looked at each other like, seriously? I mean, it’s one thing to say 30 instead of 31, but eleventeen doesn’t even friggin exist!

Anyway, we still get a kick out of that till this day.

What's the point of this post? I don't mind off-topic posts, but a long story should at least have kind of implication…

Clearly, not all people are meant to be professors. Also, degrees including advanced degrees are not all created equal. A degree from bumfuck university is not the same as a degree from, say, Harvard obviously. In fact, for the most part, I think professional graduate degrees from random universities are, more or less, a waste of money and time.

My dad always says eleventeen. He knows it's incorrect but he cracks up every single time. But he's not in an academic setting!

When my son was little and learning to count, he said “nine, ten, eleven, e-twelve…”

He is now a cost accountant. Go figure! (no pun intended – but it fits)

I guess I do have to lighten up. What I've learned from my time on this website is that CPAs have a pretty low bar in terms of their sense of humor haha. First napuelolieber then eleventeen! I guess I'm just too critical when it comes to someone's attempt at humor.

I'm a firm believer that one's sense of humor is directly proportionate to one's intelligence. That being said, I've seen many of your responses on here and you sound very intelligent, so I'm sure you do have a sense of humor.
