I am going to start study for FAR beginning in August for October test. Will 8 weeks @20 hrs a week be enough to study or is 8 weeks of studying too long? I thought I heard that study for any of the test should be no more than 6 weeks?

    Please advise…

Whether or not 8 weeks is too long depends on how you study and retain information. For me, it'd be too long. 🙂 For you, it might not be. Either way, it will mean that you'll need to review the first couple weeks more than the last ones.

That being said, given how much material FAR has, I'd say that 8 weeks won't hurt. You can't take it in Sept, so Oct is as soon as you can test, anyway…so it's basically either study for 8 weeks, or take 2 weeks off and study for 6. Given that situation, 8 weeks just gives you more time for the information to “settle in”.

If I was you, I'd try to study through all the material in 4 weeks, and then re-study it in the next 4 weeks. That way, everything will be freshly studied within 4 weeks before the test, but you'll also get the 8-week advantage of being able to assimilate the information over a longer length of time. 🙂
