Hi all,

I know this topic has shown up here before but I still need some clarification. A month ago, I was arrested for DUI/OUI in Mass. I have my court date next month. I was applying for my NTS and this would be my third exam. They have a question there if I have been convicted of an offenses such as DUI/OUI or have any sort of plea bargain for first time offenders. I just checked no on that box since I have not been convicted yet. Did I do the right thing. I am sure that I would be getting a plea bargain CWOF’ed next month. So now thats a conviction. Do I have to report NASBA after I get the NTS. The second question is will it affect my chances of getting the CPA liscense? Thanks in advance. I know some of you guys have been through this situation. Was it hard for you guys to get the liscense. Please advice? I am also calling NASBA right now but they seem to be too busy. Have been waiting for 30 mins now…Thanks

Second, you answered the question correctly. It asked if you've been convicted. The answer is no. So forget about it unless you're asked again. As long as it didn't say, “Will you report any future convictions immediately?” then you did the right thing.

Honestly I don't see how it could possibly be an issue in getting your license. I've never heard of a DUI conviction stopping someone from getting a CPA license.

Been there, done that! Except I did get convicted. It was about 10 years ago and I learned a humongous lesson. When asked, I feel like it's better to be honest (full disclosure) about it.

I wouldn't indicate to anyone about it if/until you are convicted.

When I applied to be an Enrolled Agent, it took them 4 months to approve my application. They had to send it to Washington, D.C. because I “checked the box”. Anyway, it may take a little longer to jump through the hoops but it shouldn't deter you from your professional career, unless you go to work for M.A.D.D.
