I felt about as confident as you possibly can feel after taking one of these exams when I took audit on the 6th. Then I started reading on this forum how everyone used the research tab to anser non-research SIMS. It didn’t even occur to me to do that. I of course used it for the 1 research question I got, but that was the extent of it. I answered the other SIMS based on the studying that I had done in preparation for the exam.

Now I’m worried that my best attempt on the SIMS will not compare to the absolute assurance that other candidates attained by seeing answers in black and white in the authorative literature.

Can anyone else tell me if they have passed (or even did well) on Audit without the additional aid of the research function on non-research SIMS? I know scores are being released today or tomorrow, but my state will not release until the end of the week at the earliest. (so I still have a bit of a wait).

I passed AUD without using the Research tab on the Sims. It didn't occur to me either, lol.

Everyone really hypes up the AUD SIMs… Are they really that terrible!? Be honest!

I took AUD last window and the people who also took it then who had taken it in other windows said it was the worst it had ever been. The sims were so bad, the research tab didn't help me at all on any sim. One sim was so bizarre when I researched it in the auth lit, it said, “Topic X is so complex most auditors will need the help of a specialist to audit topic x.” and there was no guidance for it. Don't know how they expected me to be able to fill out an entire sim for it. It might have been pretest since I couldn't possibly have gotten even 25% of the points on it and walked out with a high score. The upside is that nothing surprises me now. The FAR sims I saw were a cake walk compared to my AUD sims.

So I guess what I'm saying is don't worry about it if you didn't use the research tab. I think most people only find answers for one or two sims, and certainly not for the entire sim, and sometimes the research tab isn't helpful at all.

@Peanut, yes they were seriously a nightmare last window. Watching people's experiences this window, it seems they have slacked off on the difficulty level, so I think you're good. Even if they're absolutely terrible, they'll be terrible for most everybody, so you'll be fine. This is it, you're gonna finish it. Whooo hoo!

I didnt think to use the research tabs on Audit or REG. I think I have heard Jeff mention this before, and I agree with him, that one of the best ways to prepare for sims is to have a conceptual understanding of the multiple choice questions. I will have to remember to check out the research tabs during FAR on Friday when I get stuck.

I took REG last year and didn't use the research tab for the SIMs, and managed to pass. Put “coulda shoulda” out of your mind until you see your score.

@Peanut- Yes, they are that bad. But the good news is…. there has to be an insane curve on them because I have no idea how I got an 87 after guessing on all those Sims.

I'm in the same boat OP.

I took my test on 1/29/2012 and finished with 1 hour to spare. I totally didn't think of using the research tab to help me with any of the SIMs. But like you, I answered everything based on my own studying and felt I was able to at least understand what was being asked for each one.

After reading about how people used the RT, I tried thinking of the SIMs I had and I can't even remember any of them lol.
