Does having experience in public accounting help much with the CPA exam?

I’m currently studying FAR with Becker and am finding many of these topics to be a breeze due to my 2 years experience working in public accounting. Does anyone else feel this way or am I being overconfident?

    AUD – 77

    REG – 78

    BEC – 76

    FAR – November, 2012

Your scores don't exactly indicate that you are “breezing” through the material, but, yes, having public accounting experience of course will help.

Chris1k2, I really do hope you come out of FAR with 90+. Then you can come back and tell mini how much of a breeze the exam was. As the fast and the furious quote goes, “It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning's winning” You my friend are winning at the cpa exam. Keep up the good work.

To answer your question, yes it does help. For me it helped me visualize what I was learning.

I admittedly misread his initial post and didn't realize he was speaking specifically about FAR. My bad.

chapter 1 makes FAR seem “easy”. wait till chapter 2. (at least in 2011 version of FAR)

I feel like my work experience helped in every exam except for FAR. I work in Internal Audit, so the only thing I do with the GL is make sure it ties to the Financials at year-end.
