Dilemma with postponing FAR . . .

Hi, I am struggling with a decision to postpone my upcoming battle with FAR. I am scheduled to take it on the 29. My NTS is good until Dec, but my 18 months is up on Jan 15. So there is only 3 windows open to take the exam if I test in early Jan and in august. My dilemma hinges on that I do not feel ready. I am less than 1/2 of the way through the roger materials (yes I did go through in my last attempt) and not 1/2 through the Wiley test bank. As I recently had surgery, I have not been able to focus for the long study hours.

My family is encouraging me to take the test ready or not, and maybe I could hope to pass, and not lose the opportunity at one of the windows closing. .

Work thinks I should focus on healing, and focus on testing and being ready in the next window.

    What have you done?

If you do decide to go for it, how would you approach studying?

Would you postpone or go for it?

If it were me, I'd take it on 8/31

I have not been at this (exam taking) very long as some, but I have found that there is a relief in postponing. Then there is the nagging little voice that says you should have taken the test. Besides the fact that your health is a concern, and you are not really finished with the material…..I say give yourself the best chance to pass and just postpone until Oct. You won't be able to heal or pass the test so you have to decide what is more important. We can make the matter harder than what it is…..you know you have to study and study hard, you know this will eat at you until you take the test, so I say give yourself the best chance to pass. Why go through all of this to take it again or to intentionally fail. really? We all know that this is not a roll of the dice, you might pass….the only way we (including me) will pass is if we study and understand the materials. Some might have “lucked” up and answered a few more questions correctly and therefore passed, but I don't know nobody that did not study and passed because they are an accounting natural. It won't happen.

I guess you get the point, you need to heal and you want to pass so give yourself the best chance at both. (sorry for the rant)

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to pass

I apologize I didn't read the surgery part of your post. I was just skimming through and getting ready for bed when I replied last night.

Tncincy made a good point. That's such a dilemma.

But you already took FAR twice and I assumed you had already studied most of the materials.

I guess it really all depends to whoever is taking the test. It's your body.

Our health is our wealth. We need to take care of our health first and foremost.

    P.S.

I am taking FAR next window, second attempt. Knowing the hugeness of the materials covered for this part, I am still unsure of how I am going to prepare (again) for FAR in the next 3 months.

I would go for it! Do the best you can considering you are healing for the next 2 weeks and approach with a “Why waste a window?” attitude! The worst thing that happens is you retest in October, which sucks, but at least you won't be up against that 18 month ticking clock adding pressure from burning this window.

You still have a good shot to pass…go for it!!!!!!!! 🙂

I'm sorry to hear about your surgery, Beach Girl. It can be really difficult to study while recuperating or on meds. If you are still torn, I would say set a few goals for yourself over the next few days and if you don't make it, reschedule your test. I think Prometric will let you reschedule up to the day or two before. The goals could be making 75s or above on practice tests or more progress in the Wiley test bank. Whatever will make you feel more comfortable about taking the exam since you have seen the FAR curve ball questions before.

You are so close to being done, but getting better is more important.

Don't waste the open window. I would never postpone the exam, unless a strategy postpone. I rather waste money but not time. Even though you know you are not prepared, just go take the exam. If failed, retake the exam again for the next open window.

You can probably keep playing Jeff's audio while you're recuperating.

You really should take the exam this window! Someone cited Forrest Gump: This is just like a box of chocolate, you never know what you gonna get. I made this experience myself. No matter how much you study and know, if you get stupid questions you will not be able to pass.

Just imagine in this window all the questions you know, will be testet.

    You really should show up!

Hi Beach Girl: I say give it a big strong push between now and test day. I agree that you are not on top of your game right now but you may surprise yourself on test day. I hope you are feeling better every day!! Good luck to you!!

Thank you for all the advise! When I planned the surgery I set some goals for getting studying done, and I am way behind. I am getting better every day, but I am a lot more exhausted than I expected. which has impacted my studying ability. I was not going to waste time off work while recouping not studying but I also know I needed to heal as well.

    @Tncincy
    – that is how I feel. I have not passed in the past, and I am putting in less study time, and why would I pass this time without additional effort?

@mints – I hate the idea of “wasting the window” hence the dilemma. 🙂

@ BaxterCPA – Thank you, I am feeling better every day, as long as I am not over pushing myself (I did to much a few days, and had back down)

@auslaf – I think I may do that, see how far I can get. I am looking to see what I can cut from the studying and what to focus my time on to be ready

@Amordiva – my family listened to audio a lot while they were here taking care of me. And actually encouraged me to be listening to it, and will call to check in and ask about if I have been listening! That was very encouraging.

@Cessna – you have a good point! You can never really feel ready for evil FAR!

I am in the same exact boat in that my reg expires Q1 2014 so I technically have 3 tries to pass FAR. I scheduled 8/31 to “give it a shot” but like you, I am like not even halfway through my study materials. I am going to take it anyway, and probably not pass but im ok with that. I want to get my feet wet in the FAR exam waters even if it means 200+$ in testing fees. However if you are just too physcially exausted and in need of recovery, do what is best for you of course. If you are ok with possibly not passing due to not being ready, study what you can without over-doing it and sit end of august at least to get in one stab at it in this testing window! Best of luck! 🙂

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.
