So, I didn’t pass FAR. I’m supposed to sit for BEC next Wednesday and I’m kind of feeling like maybe I should push it back. I’m sure this has happened to a few of you so what are your thoughts, should I:

    a) Reschedule BEC for the first week of July (Total study time for BEC, 3.5 weeks, full-time, everyday)

    b) Go take BEC and move back to FAR without knowing if I passed BEC

    c) Stop studying BEC and move back to FAR so that I can re-take Week 1 or 2 of July and then take BEC in August

Ahh! I just don’t want to have to repeat ANOTHER exam. I got my first fail out of the way and I really don’t want to do it again…

@HomeStretch, I'm using Becker text, Wiley test bank, Ninja notes and making my own flashcards. I studied full-time (because I'm not working) so I would put in anywhere from 6-10 hours of studying a day for 5.5 weeks. I mentioned in another thread that when I walked into my exam I was so SCARED…I've never been so terrified to take an exam and the stress consumed me. I literally blanked out, I couldn't even remember how to do installment method sales! (Pretty embarrassing) I think it was more “fear of the unknown” than my ability to perform the work. I didn't know what to expect and sometimes this site can frighten new test-takers but I realized after taking the exam, that all the stress wasn't need and that I can pass these as long as I keep my nerves in check and think of it as any other exam.

@wmalvino, thanks so much for the kind words! I would really like to give BEC a shot next week just to see what it's like but if I fail it, that's a lot of money down the drain–and extra costs to retake. If I choose to reschedule I'm not guaranteed to pass it in July but I think that I could walk in feeling more confident about it. Either way, I have to decide today otherwise the reschedule fee will go over $35 :/

@whatkey, my score wasn't that close. I'm not sure if you've been reading my posts or not but I had a minor freak out during my exam and my mind kinda just crapped out at that point. I DO know the material. I just couldn't spit it out that day.

Big thanks to everyone! I don't think any of you know how much your support means to me. Most of my family and friends do a decent job at trying to support me through this process. My dad on the other had is very critical and said some very nasty and harsh comments to me yesterday. It kind of killed my spirit yesterday. I woke up today realizing that his negative thoughts are his own and I don't need to let them bring me down. So, again, my sincerest thanks to all of you that have offered advice or have wrote kind words 🙂

If I were you I would try and keep the info you give your dad as vague as possible. Gives him less ammo to hurl hurtful comments at you. If you can help it, don't let him know when you are taking exams and waiting on scores. This test is hard enough mentally and we beat ourselves up enough without having someone fueling that fire. If I were you, I would limit communication to him about the test to things like, ‘in the next several weeks' or ‘I'm not really sure when I will find out that score.' All he needs to know is that you are focusing on the part you are currently studying, if even that. Surround yourself with those that support you and keep those who don't at a distance. 🙂

    I will say….option B.

You have spent time studying for the exam, and the material is on your brain. GO FOR IT!!!

Once done with BEC, you can either wait for the score or start to re-study for FAR. Remember that as soon as you pass one exam, the 18 mos window starts.

    Done 😉
    Class of 2012!!!!
Lots of prayers and hard work....

@marivy, Option B it is! I decided earlier today that I'll just go and take it and see how I do. Then, I'll wait for my score and see how it goes. If I don't pass, I'll try to do a quick restudy for BEC and then hit FAR again in August. I'm taking a day off from studying today (other than skimming through notes/flashcards) just to give my mind a break. Yesterday was a tough day.

EELCPA way to get back in the saddle 🙂 In the immortal words of whoever “What we call failure is not the falling down but the staying down.”

Seriously – think that's a good call. You're a lot more likely to be able to retain the BEC formulas, etc because there's so much less info than FAR. Needless to say – good idea to work your keester off till next Weds. We're all rooting for you!

    @EEL

I would go for (b) as well. I felt like there was so much material in FAR that having time away from it was beneficial. I guess it was time for me to digest the info 🙂

I feel for you regarding your Dad. That is a tough situation. I had a tough time with my hubby while studying, he hated the time I spent away and it became a real sore point. Just speaking from my experience, don't let your Dad's comments take away your focus on BEC. Go and take that exam and walk in there with confidence. I swear half the battle is having bravado on game day, and don't let any crazy question knock your faith.

Keep it going!!! Best of luck on BEC.

EEL, I say take the test. If you have to wait a month, you'll forget more than you've learned. But also don't walk in there if you aren't batting decent scores on the Becker practice tests or Wiley test bank simulated exams. Going in there after you are prepared is far different than shooting in the dark and hoping you hit the mark…that might kill your confidence even more!

Benchmark and then come out swinging! Rooting for you :o)

@yankeeaccountant, thanks so much! I decided to go ahead with the exam next week. I'm really hoping it isn't a mistake. I'm going to try my hardest to pass this exam but if I don't I guess I'll just chalk it up to experience 🙂 Can't beat myself up for failing any exams because this is just part of the process—it isn't supposed to be easy and that's exactly why it's worth fighting for!

@BDO-Baby, I definitely felt like an extra 5 weeks of studying would have been pushing it for me…..like you said I probably would've forgotten more than I learned. I'm not 100% confident in all areas of BEC but that's why I'm going to work really hard this week and weekend to try to strengthen those areas and tie up some loose ends. Thanks for rooting for me—feels good to have complete strangers cheering me on! Good luck on AUD next week, I'll send my positive thoughts your way too!
