Anyone here using CPA Excel for FAR prep? I feel like most on this board are using Becker, just wanted to see how everyone using CPAExcel is preparing for their tests.

@cpahopeful206 I answered another post about cpaexcel. I switched to yaeger for far. I started with cpaexcel and found it very difficult to remain interested. They have alot of stuff, books, dvd's, usb ports flash cards, and that's great but far also have 272 lessons to complete. The lectures are short but exactly the same as the lecture slides. Really all the information is exaclty the same and was a little long and drawn out for me. I am sure you know what you need but make sure, really sure before you go for the bells and whistles. I have not received my materials yet but I learned the demo. I feel I needed the lectures to go over the some of the questions so I would know how to solve I didn't get that from cpaexcel.

I guess it's good if you don't need any extra help.

I am using CPAExcel for FAR. I am taking my exam in the April/May window. I have been studying FAR for a few months. The other poster is correct, there is a lot of redundant information. I am following the lectures along with the book….working the EQs/PQs in study mode. The slides, flashcards, and study text just repeat what's already in the book/videos. CPAExcel assumes that you know a lot and can be confusing to follow.

Let's see what happens! Good luck…

I've used CPAExcel for the other 3 sections and passed 2 so far. Still waiting on results for the 3rd section. I supplemented with the Wiley book for all sections. I'll probably do the same for FAR. I start studying FAR tomorrow, I hope I can get through the material, the previous posts are scaring me now.

@Spencer – the work load is heavy for FAR (2 books – 1100+ pages)…I am following the videos and the books and doing EQs/PQs/TBSs alongside.

FAR is my first section. I was thinking of doing AUD > BEC > REG next – same order as you. Is that a good idea?

I've used CPAExcel for all of mine so far, and I am continuing with audit. I'll agree with the above poster that it was hard to stay focused doe FAR because of the sheer length and load. I didn't think I'd ever get through it (I actually didn't either!)

I have supplemented with NINJA notes/audio/flashcards in varying combinations, and used Wiley Test Bank with all 3.

    REG - 89
    BEC - 82
    FAR - 87
    AUD - 81
Used CPAexcel, Wiley Online Practice, and NINJA!

@ getting a cpa, I didn't really have a method to the order. The amount of material scared me for FAR which is why I saved it until now. I needed to get through one part and pass so I could stay motivated. I'm married with kids and work fulltime. Hope FAR continues to go well for you.

Thanks to everyone who has responded. Yeah, the material is a lot. @getting a cpa, that is my plan schedule of tests as well.

What do you guys recommend on doing for final review? Going back and doing each lesson's exam questions? Also, do you find that the questions in CPAExcel mirror questions in the exams in terms of difficulty level? Some questions I find really easy and I'm worried they're easier in comparison to the real thing.

@CPAHopeful – I just posted about doing the entire practice exam as a final review, and CPAExcel does offer that option. Jeff and others have suggested that doing the entire exam as a review is a bad idea..see below:

“A good score on a practice exam could make you over-confident and a bad score could kill your momentum and make you think you know less than you do. Also – it cannot replicate the psychometrics at play on exam day (some questions are worth more than others).”

I kind of knew this, but thought that sitting for 4 hours would get me prepared for the real thing.

Also, I find some CPAExcel questions very easy, and some very difficult. Someone on another site who used CPAExcel mentioned that it is very similar to the actual test….

Thank you for your help @getting a cpa. Its good to know. There is a good mix of really easy and difficult questions throughout each lesson so hopefully my preparation with these questions will help on the actual exam.
