    They opened international testing centers for foreigners who have to select a state to become certified in only to practice in their country as a CPA.

    I’m a CRP, which is national and really do not understand this CPA state by state process. It doesn’t seem to be feasible in today’s globalization and international demand to become a CPA. The CPA is ideal in countries such as Australia and the UK. It’s very funny how you go into NASBA and AZ is one of the states who offer this but in AZ Board site, not fully updated, they require one to be a resident in the state.

    I agree…I think the experience requirement should be AT LEAST 3 years, if not 5. You should at least have to make it to senior consultant/manager at an accounting firm (or industry equivalent) before you can obtain the cert.

    That may be a little challenging. With so many companies upgrading their requirements before they will consider you to obtain the experience. I have been trying to get to a higher level for 15 years. LOL. Although, I consistently perform exceeded expectations everywhere I work, the companies I work for keep requiring more and more just to move up a small level. Management positions seem to be out of reach for me. However, the CPA is and hopefully will pay off. Eventually, I will need to find another job in order to move up. But I kept hearing – CPA preferred. Management experience required.

    There are quite a few managers who can't pass the exams and many entry-level accountants who can…

    That's true, 75; that's why you need the whole “sha-bang” 🙂

    Agreed with @baseball. The whole point of having a premium certification is to set yourself apart from the crowd. To me, this is being able to pass the exam and have 5 years of experience in the industry.

    Mini, I don't think the CPA crowd is that big 🙂

    I agree with the longer experience requirement but think more types of work should count as experience. After 18 years of working in industry, I think I should get *some* type of experience credit. Maybe an additional year of working in public or something but certainly it is worth something to have been working as long as I have been.

    @mla1169

    I believe in NY, if you have 15 years of acceptable experience, you don't need to satisfy any education or experience requirements.
