What other options do I have? Besides reporting them to the state board and leaving my job.

You're kind of leaving a big part of the story out…

Did he tell you why he won't sign off on it?

I will be the third CPA in the office. Therefore, the firm will be subject to peer review bc of the new law

My former boss didn't do it either. He didn't tell me why but I knew he did some shady things in his side business and wanted to remain under the radar. I had my current boss do it and he was happy to do so.

    The whole process sucks.

Report him or ask for a 25% raise. Don't tell him you'll report him though that would probably break a law or two. Lol.

Yikes that's horrible! The only thing I can think of is to quit – maybe you can reach an agreement as to a severence package? If he's that shady I wouldn't want to work there anyway and once you have your CPA license you should be able to find another job right? If all you need is hours, it would be worth it to me to have the license & leave my job.

Not the kind of company you want to work for in my opinion. Run for the hills.

Are these only private firms that are giving you guys trouble? In public accounting firms, I would think they'd be happy to sign off.

Let me get this straight, your boss, a licensed CPA, does not want to sign off on hours, that you legitimately worked, to allow you to receive a license, that is rightfully yours, because he doesn't want to spend the extra money on a peer review. Hmm where to start with this! First, it sounds like this is a man who lacks integrity and as CPA's we are not supposed to have dealings with individuals or companies that lack integrity. Second, if all he is concerned about is paying for the peer review, I would tell him that that won't be a problem because I'd be hauling my butt out of there before the ink on his signature was dry on the paper. If he still won't sign then take it up with your state board. This isn't the kind of person we need in this profession and the state board should be made aware that he is a total a-hole. Just my .02 worth.

So did you came up this ‘the firm will be subject to peer review bc of the new law” or your boss told you? if your boss told you then he has NO rights to say NO to sign off because he has Professional Obligation to sign your work experience unless he prove your lack of quality of work and other issues…other than that he must sign.

Other than Board …consult with attorney if possible and if i were you i will try to convice boss and at last i will leave that job and take appropriate action on him…no matter what i will get that SIGNATURE from him because this is my work i earn it and its my rights.

I will kill for that signature!!!!!!! Why, why, why???

Collect your pay stubs, W2s, and any other employment papers you signed when you started. He absolutely has a professional obligation to sign, b/c the state board and his professional liability insurance won't like what you've posted. And you have lawyer friends, they are going to be handy in this.

    Couldn't pass again!

You are looking for another job, right? Get that lined up first, then call your state board and talk to a human being for advice. Tell them how excited your were to pass the exams and how much you were looking forward to licensure. Will the second CPA sign for you? (Not knowing your state requirements)

Sounds like your boss is a CPA with no integrity…
