    Hi,

I’m looking into taking a certificate program to sit for the CPA.

I have a bachelor’s degree in finance with a minor in economics as well as an MBA but don’t have a strong academic background in accounting.

I feel that my career is heading in a direction that will be best served by holding a CPA. I currently work as a revenue analyst.

My confusion is in the experience requirements. Where is have an advanced degree am I exempt from the requirements? If not, can I still get a CPA but just be non-reporting? I’ve read a bevy of information online but am still confused.

Thanks to everyone and anyone who will guide me!

You should contact your state's board of accountancy to get accurate information. If you just want to have the title, but not use it go to Virginia board of accountancy website. On the education requirements tab they provide a worksheet were you can evaluate yourself and you can even submit your transcripts to the board for pre evaluation without paying a $$ ( I used the service back in June 2011)

    Good luck!!

    Done 😉

@Matt85 Check out the Mass SCPA website link.

    https://www.mscpaonline.org/news/news_detail.php?news_id=587

Each state is different so make sure you check out what Mass requires as far as classes, hours and what not. The State society of CPAs for each individual state usually have an academic person who can help you further with these questions. Send an email to that person and you should have all your answers. On a side note I think with your education you will not need many more credits if any, but the hours of experience you might need. Cheers : )

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

    Audit 4/19/12 - 77
    BEC 5/31/12 - 75
    FAR 8/30/12

I live in MA and have a non-reporting license based on the fact that I hold an advanced degree. You'll have to check with the board to make sure you have the appropriate accounting credits to sit but you may well be able to get the non reporting license too.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.
