I take FAR in t-minus 6 days. I have been using both Wiley and Becker. When I take the final exam for Wiley I am scoring in the Mid to High 80’s. When I do the progress test in Becker I am scoring in the mid 70’s to low 70’s. What I am doing wrong? Which “score” or “system” should I use to base my progress? For Becker each topic I am getting above a 72% but am weak for leases/bonds. The same is with Wiley as far as leases and bond so those are my main focus for the next few days.

As I type this I think that I do better with Wiley because it feels like the real exam. Meaning I am getting random questions unlike becker which goes chapter by chapter. So I get tons of F1 then tons of F2 etc and maybe that is just causing me to lose focus.

    Any advice????

    FAR 76
    REG 76(2x)
    BEC FAILED (2x)
    AUD FAILED (2x)

My experience with Becker is that the “Final Exams” tend to be more difficult than the actual exam, but by no means am I suggesting you get “comfortable” with what you're scoring on the Becker exams now. If leases and bonds are your weak point, that's indicating to me that you are generally uncomfortable with amortization tables. The key to destroying both of those areas is to effectively understand amortization tables. If you understand the underlying concepts behind capital leases and bonds and you can draw up an amortization table in your sleep, you won't cross a lease/bond question that you can't dominate. But amortization can be tricky so make sure you pound the structure of the table into your brain and be VERY VERY careful to when payments are delivered/received to indicate whether you are calculating under an ordinary annuity or an annuity due. Good luck!

What you're scoring on the sample tests now isn't what's important. Rather, it's how well do you understand the material. Go through the questions you missed and the ones you got right but weren't sure about and identify why i.e. stupid mistake, didn't understand a few points on a topic, just don't get a topic at all, etc. You then will have a list of your weak areas to give extra focus to over the next few days. Continue to do MCQ on all areas but concentrate on your weak spots.

    Good luck.
