Hi guys, this is my first time studying for the CPA/FAR. for some reason it is taking me too long to move on from chapter to chapter, I am using Becker. First thing I do is watch the lecture, highlight the book for any important information, and use flashcards. Then I do the questions chapter by chapter. Each multiple choice takes me about 2-3 or even 4 mins to finish. It took me a week to finish with chapter one putting approximately 25-30 hours a week, and I didn’t even do the simulations. I am on chapter two and this one is taking me even longer. Any strategies on how you guys study to make my time more efficient? I am taking the exam at the end of july or beg of August. Please help!

    victoria,
Keep motivated and understand that the Becker questions are extra complicated and often include more than one concept per question. You will get faster answering MCQs as you practice. Try to understand 80-90% of the concepts and move on because if you take more than 2 months to study you will probably start to forget what you learned initially.

FAR is the worst and this has been the story of my life! Nessie is right, just got to keep pushing yourself. Good luck.

Yeah studying too long for an exam will not help. I spent little over 2 months to study for FAR. By the time I started to review I had forgot half to the stuff. The reason my FAR exam I think I will definitely fail. When you are doing MCQ and if you get the answer wrong try to understand why the answer is wrong, if you don't understand go back in the chapter to read it over. Like Nessie said try to understand the concept.

Screw the lectures and stop highlighting. Just read the book instead and take notes on stuff you don't understand but not word for word in the book. Then do the mcq then move on. Review that chapter or that section in two days.

I had the same feeling. For me Chapter 2,3,5 and 6 was worst.Especially chapter 2 took forever to complete.I think reading first time takes more time. Again try to understand the concepts and practice the JE's like try to do the JE for all the applicable MCQ's. It will help you to understand the concepts very well.Becker questions are really tough .Becker SIMS again are combination of bunch of MCQ's. I think you are doing great. Just keep doing it.All the best.

Ditto on skip the lectures if something has to go, or save them for when you can't do another MCQ/SIM. Plus I find I get a lot more out of them after I've done a bunch of questions.

Looking up stuff while doing MCQ's is time consuming enough – but it is IMO the best approach to learning.
