Hey all, I was wondering–for those who passed the CPA–what kind of celebrations your friends, family and co-workers threw for you.

My wife and family surprised me with a great party on a Saturday.

I was surprised, however, by my work. They put so much pressure on me to pass and kept tabs on how I was doing. Surprisingly, they didn’t do anything after I passed. No party, no cake, etc. I can say that when colleagues passed I universally took them to lunch to celebrate and other companies I worked for made sure to throw a party for the passing candidate.

Just curious what your workplaces did when you passed.

My parents and friends knew. I pretty much went out every night for 3 weeks afterwards for drinks, dinner, catching up. One person at work knew, but I never breathed a word of it to anybody else; that workplace was extremely toxic and my coworker and I agreed that nothing good would come from announcing it (would probably endanger my employment). I left that place shortly afterwards, without saying anything about passing.

    Couldn't pass again!

@CPApending Well, hopefully they congratulated you on your success. If not, you are a CPA! At my company there were no celebrations or parties for people who passed. Depending on the relationship you had with you manager, they may take you to lunch but that is done privately. Hopefully, I am right behind you. I also started this journey about 20 years ago back when Becker gave out little booklets at each class. Finally, I am almost there.

My boss took me out to lunch when I got my first passing score (FAR). Nothing since then, but I imagine I'll get another lunch when I pass the last section.

It's a small gesture, but it's nice to be acknowledged.

A few pats on the back was about it. Almost seems like I burned all my bridges with this stupid test!

That's about what I got Roxwella.

I guess I expected a little more pomp and circumstance from the people who have been there and KNOW what passing this test means. Most people in the world don't know what a big deal this is.

Kind of felt like a lead balloon. But as someone else said, I have the best Christmas and birthday present ever….not having to study for this stupid exam any more and a license somewhere in the bureaucratic channels of NASBA and the GA Secretary of State's office. 😀

My peers took me out to lunch, they were super excited and happy for me and not all of them are CPAs but they understand what it takes to pass the exam. My immediate boss just congratulated me and that's all I expected from him. However the Controller who is also a CPA, and a peer of my boss,is very happy for me and is taking me out to a congratulatory lunch in January.

In my family if you get a raise, promotion or in this case passing the CPA exam, you actually have to treat everyone else to dinner. So I did just that this past Saturday and it was a lot of fun. However my sister and brother-in-law have promised me a fancy dinner soon, so I'm definitely looking forward to that!

Frankly, it's just such a relief to be done, that every night I don't have study or don't feel guilty for not studying is a celebration!

Pat on the back and congratulations. People at work nonrelated to my process were the ones who took me out.

At work I got a 10% raise. I knew it was coming but it's still nice. Mostly just a pat on the back from my family. My Husband takes the cake by getting me an iPad mini as a gift. We also talked about a party but there were only a select few that were really supportive through the process and I took them to dinner to thank them so that's good enough for me. I also agree that just getting my life back and being able to celebrate a holiday without the stress of when I will get in my studying was gift in itself.

    FAR - 80
    AUD - 68, 82 -> I'm Done!
    REG - 75
