I’m a staff at a Big 4, and was wondering if people knew the different career paths I could take outside of public accounting in the future?

I work in audit… so would I best fit to work in internal audit for a private company? What other options do I have? How can I become that Assistant Controller?

Well, the only thing I know if you worked in audit, then you would be a perfect fit for internal audit. I had my internship in KPMG in the internal audit, and people who worked for external audit and then shifted to internal audit had way better skills than people who start right away as internal auidtors, due to the experience they had as external auditors

    BEC -
    REG -
    AUD -

Make it to a level with significant client contact (e.g., senior, supervisor or manager), try to specialize in an industry group that has decent job prospects, establish a good professional relationship with your clients, and then go work for one of them when something opens up. Not many CPAs go work in internal audit after being in public.

@drg1983 “…Not many CPAs go work in internal audit after being in public” why do you say this? Just curious.
