Hello everybody. I recently joined this forum after a friend of mine gave me the Ninja notes which are very helpful. As far as my CPA background is concerned, I have failed BEC twice with scores of 66 and 74 and awaiting my third attempt results in the coming days. Anyway, I would really appreciate if you can take a minute or two to give me some advice. I’ve been working at a local Accounting firm for the past year doing basic bookkeeping and data entry work on quickbooks. Our clients are mainly small grocery stores. This tax season I’ve actually been filing some simple individual tax returns as well. I really think its time to move on and pursue my true potential at bigger Accounting firms with challenging roles such as Audit. I graduated from college in 2010. I was unable to go to any career fairs or get interviews at that time with big companies because I was not authorized to work at that time. However, I am right now. What is the best option for me and how do you suggest I proceed from here? I have started a profile on career builder. I’d appreciate ANY type of advice or input from anyone. I’m 24 years old. Good luck with your CPA prep!

Edit: Sry. Just realized I posted this in the FAR section.

Definitely stay active on the job search websites, monster.com is good and your State CPA agency may also have online classifieds. Beef up your resume and have someone go over it to perfect it as that document is the only thing employers look at initially.

Keep studying and getting experience at your current firm, maybe get in touch with your college and see if they have a program to help find alumni new jobs.

You can do it Misu, just keep trying

I agree with Cool Frijoles. I would stay at your current firm while you are studying for the CPA. It's much easier to study when you're not doing 60+ hour weeks as an auditor and then coming home to study. Unless, of course, you are already doing long hours. Plus, being able to tell a potential employer that you already passed the CPA is a salary booster. Keep up those connections too.

    FAR 4/2013 75

5 years in private accounting, < 1 year in public accounting. Runner, mommy, dog and cat lover. SO glad I took the exam before I went to public accounting.
