I started taking the CPA in the second testing window of 2011. I passed AUD, FAR, and REG fairly quickly and have been taking BEC every testing window since the July-August Testing Window of last year. I just took BEC the other day and it did not go any better. I can’t pass this section and I do not think I passed it yesterday. I do not understand what it is. I have received a 73 and 74 thus far. I have solid scores on AUD, FAR, and REG as well. If anyone can give me any type of advice on how to tackle this test then I would really appreciate it. I think I am will have 3 fails on this section once I got my score back from yesterday. I want to know how to tackle this thing once busy season wraps up. I am willing to take a week off from work and study 14 hours a day for 7 days straight if that is what it takes.

I took BEC yesterday. I used Becker and studied for about 7 weeks. I watched the lectures, read the text (important IMO), did the homework questions (most of them I did twice), did the progression tests, did AICPA 2011 BEC questions (around 40 questions I think), and an AICPA BEC sample test. I think all of this, for the most part, prepared me well for the exam. You might want to focus more on your weak areas and understand them better. I also recommend making a formula sheet for every section of BEC and understand what the equations mean. I think and I am hoping that I passed because I understood the material. I wasn't just memorizing formulas and words. I admit that there were concepts on the exam that I had never seen in Becker, but that is expected. There is no perfect review out there. I think it comes down to understanding and good judgment. Also, I am not a good test taker. I get nervous sometimes and reread the questions and cannot focus, but I do the best that I can.

Don't give up. You can and will conquer BEC.

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 88!!! DONE!!!!!!!!
    BEC - 76
    REG - 77

    never, never, never give up

@CPAwinning . First I agree with you BEC is tough for me too. My first attempt is on 1/17. I have little chance of passing but am going for it. Mostly so I can ove on to another part. Can't stand studying this part anymore. I have done 3,650 mc questions, wiley, exammatrix and cpaexamreview for free and still suck wind on 40% of it. You would think I would be a master with that many questions. Some brains aren't wired for BEC. REG seemed much easier for me. My advice is to never give up. You will get there, you're not alone. What parts are tough for you? I guess, cost, variances and financial. The coso, It and corp governence is easy. The other stuff sucks. hang in there.

    Reg 11/15/2011 - 80
    Aud 02/28/2012 - 81
    Bec 05/31/2012 - 78
Far 08/31/2012 - 83 Do you believe in Miracles, YES !!!

What you describe sounds familiar. No matter how well I understood the formulas and the material, I never managed to improve my score significantly.

The first time I got a 75 on the final Wiley test and 74 on the real exam. The second time it was 76 on both exams.

My WCs are pathetic and I wasn't really counting on them.

You have to go the extra mile, give it everything you've got. It's your last exam 🙂

I feel your pain my friend. I passed both FAR and AUD on the first attempt, but just took BEC on the 4th and really do not think I passed. I felt so prepared when I went into Prometric, but left wondering what the heck just happened. I spent 2 months studying for this exam, memorized all the formulas, and even thought I prepared well for theory type questions. I was getting 80s average on Wiley and cpareviewforfree.com quizzes. I just do not know what it is about this exam. Best of luck to you with this monster.

    @85CPA,

We seem to have a similar gameplan and results so far. 🙂 I took BEC yesterday and feel exactly as you feel. I've only got the Wiley book but felt very prepared for my first two tests. I was surprised by the number of questions on the test yesterday that involved a topic or theory I had never heard of. It was not like “Oh I remember seeing this in the book but can't remember what it is.” I was completely blank. Never heard of this. No idea to what this relates. Other questions involved topics I recognized but I didn't understand any of the answers or what the questions was even asking. I'm holding out hope a good chunk of these were pretest.

I would love to see the video of my test. I can only imagine the confusion most of the first few hours with the occasional excitement when I actually got a question I knew.

Anyhow, it's over now so on to REG. I was really hoping I could stop neglecting my kids at the end of next month but will not be shocked to have to face this guy again. Good luck everyone. I keep hearing how “easy” this test is but I thought it was brutal. Definitely the toughest one so far for me.
