    Hi all

I don’t mean to sound flip, but is this possible? I nearly 48 now, and this test looks almost impossible to pass if you can’t devote a solid 30 hours a week to quality studying, for months, if not years….

    Am I wrong?

Nope. Adding a dog makes this test impossible Patrick 🙂

Yes. I'm 40, family, house, FT job….you have to really want it to pass. I finished in 6 months. You have to commit and get your family/friends behind you to get the time. I thank my wife for making sure I had the time to study. Her support was key in my success, even though I passed the test, she deserves a lot of credit.

    BEC. 81
    AUD. 72, 78
    REG. 87
    FAR 76

After 6 long months, I AM A CPA! Good luck to all!

I'm 41….wife…two kids….a dog…5 fish…a horrifically busy full time job…a tax business on the side…and my Mom just passed last week.

I'm two for two with REG on 5/29 and FAR on 8/2.

It can certainly be done but every moment you are not taking care of the family and job must be spent on it.

it doesnt have to be 30 hours a week. you will need a minimum of 80-90 hours total for 3 of the 4 tests to pass. if you can only spare 15-20 hours per week, you can still do it in the 18 month window needed. doubting you can do it without even trying is the worst thing you can do.

Patrick, it will be difficult but not impossible. As someone else said, if you want it badly enough you can do it. I'm 41 with a family, a house, and a dog. I don't have a full-time job but my husband and I are starting a home-based travel agency & I'm picking up some tax/bookkeeping work on the side as well as working during tax season. I fully intend to pass all 4 sections before the end of the year, as it says in my signature. Look at Jeff's ELL study plan under his free resources sticky at the top of the page. (ELL stands for Early Lunch Late). It outlines how even the busiest person can fit in 20 hours of study every week.

Don't give up before you even start trying! We're here to help. 🙂

I have everything you mentioned but the dog. But I do drive 45 minutes to and from work, which I listen to the NINJA audios. Kind of like, walking the dog.

Started sitting in May 2002, on and off. But since 2008 I've been nonstop and my scores are....
    AUD - 39, 48, 56, 65, 68, 73, 76!!! (Finally passed in Oct 2011!!!) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    REG - 75 (Lost Credit) 72, 68, 73, 75 (Passed again in Aug 2011) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    FAR - 65, 68, 75 (Lost Credit) 68, 73, 73, 80 (Passed again in May 2012) Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
    BEC - 65, 68, 71, 72, 72, 71, 76 (Lost Credit)- 70, 76!!!! I AM DONE!!! - Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
After 10 long years of studying, I AM DONE!!!! Finally a Licensed CPA in the State of New York!!

Yes, there are many people on this forum who have proven you can do it….my hat goes off to them. I have such great respect for them as I struggle with only the husband, house and 2 dogs and 2 cats.

Patrick, I agree with Kmwgrace, anything is possible if we set our minds to it. Thanks to Jeff for letting us realize that we are all in this together, we will survive!

I certainly sympathize with Jomarie. Your determination moves me.

Trying to beat the 2011 law changes, in 2009 and 2010 I sat and failed each section twice, including scores of 71, 71 and 74. I am a wife, mother, full-time employee, business owner and have a new baby. I'm excited about passing all four sections by Nov 2012! Got a dog too…

No, you do not need a job, a family, a house and a dog pass the CPA test. It helps though 🙂

Your job can be used to get the money to pay the CPA fees. A family to help you with studying. A house to study in. And a dog to lick your face while you're studying 🙂

30 here with husband, dog, full time job at big 4 firm, studying for the CPA. It is possible to pass within a reasonable amount of time. I'm hoping to pass all 4 parts by 12/31/12.

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 88!!! DONE!!!!!!!!
    BEC - 76
    REG - 77

    never, never, never give up
