Hi guys this my fist post here

I have approved to sit for the CPA exam in CA, and I will sit for FAR and BEC in august 2010.

my problem is now I want to select the other two exams so I can sit for them in the next window.

So I have created the ($100 Fee for First-time Applicants) instead of the ($50 Fee for Repeat Applicants ) is this okay?? and is it going to affect my current application.

All I want to do is to pay for the other two exams that I didn’t pay for.

    I’m very concern

Please reply me as soon as possible.

When I called last week the dude at the CBA told me that it took about 2 weeks for them to enter a transcript because they were so behind.

Did they cash your application check hasy?

They cashed my check a LONG time ago and they told me that I was deficient in units (that took 3 months btw). Hence why I had to take an accounting course AND an ethics course. It's like they're making people take this stupid ethics, so it would BUY them TIME to process all the back log applications.

Hasy, did you know you were deficient in accounting units? (not including the ethics course)

As I understand, you basically have to have 30 accounting units (24 + 6 from the accounting study requirement).

Did you know that you were short or did they disqualify an accounting class that you thought would have counted towards the 30 units?

I was deficient in accounting courses in order to be licensed. Not sit the exam.

I'm just curious if you knew you were deficient in accounting courses? Or did the board tell you that an accounting course you took (and thought would meet the requirement) didn't count for whatever reason and you had to take another accounting course?

Call me paranoid but I'm worried that my government and not for profit accounting class won't count for some reason..

I cannot answer that for you. It would depend on the person who's auditing your credits for those courses. I was short 1/3 of an accounting unit. Just let them deal with it. You can't do much to change it now. If you counted your courses and thought they were sufficient, that's the most you can do.

Yea I should be fine. The tip sheet says “accounting” classes count, and all my courses are titled as accounting classes.

Looking over the tip sheet again the Accounting unit requirements seem extremely broad. “Accounting” is listed as one of the subjects that meets the criteria..(about as broad as you can get)

What I don't understand about your situation hasy is whether or not you knew you were 1/3 of a unit short in accounting credits when you applied?

The way I see it, either 1) you knew you were going to be short a unit (or miscounted your units) or 2) the CBA came back to you and told you that one of your accounting classes didn't meet the criteria, forcing you to take another accounting class.

Based on how general the requirements seems to be for the accounting unit requirements, I'm guessing it was the former?

I miscounted them. But I don't think my statement was saying that CBA was ever at fault for not completing their duties. It was the time that it took them to assess that I was 1/3 unit short.

OK got it. Yes, I totally agree with you that the CBA is entirely too slow and too dysfunctional with this whole process.

I was more curious if they rejected one of your accounting classes or not

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope I don't get the run-around too. I don't understand why they can't review your eligibility for licensing (as far as the education requirement) when they initially review your transcripts so you can sit for the exam. A simple notification stating “you need x units in this category and y units in this one” would be tremendous in making sure I'm on pace or already there.

I'd be curious to hear from anyone who was told by the board that an accounting class that they took didn't meet the criteria to be counted towards the 24 units of accounting…and I'm talking about a class being disqualified because the course title wasn't in one of the subject areas listed on the tip sheet

Not Accounting, but I took Anthropology of Religion at a University and was told it wouldn't fulfill the requirement for the Ethics section. Which I get, since it doesn't have one of those key words in it… but come on… haha

Yea, the ethics section they actually give key words needed to fulfill the requirement..

With the accounting credit section, they basically say the class has to be in one of the following subject areas….and one of the subject areas is “ACCOUNTING”….makes me wonder how they could disqualify any class offered by the accounting department when the guidelines are so broad like that

Based on my experience, as long as the classes were offered by accounting programs, it should be fine. I took Quickbooks class and split some credits, but they were all counted. If you have any deficiency, they will hold your application and notify you during the initial review. Once your application is completed, it will move to final review, which basically reviews your application one more time. It is safe to say that once your application is completed, you will be good to go.
