Ok…I am having to take a break right now from studying FAR….I have a week conference and a vacation this month and my FAR test is July 7th. So this week is my powerstudy week. I will study every day until the test, however not as much as this week. I have until saturday. SO I am studying away and I find myself brain dead. I mean I get to a point where I am just reading the MCQ, however I can’t retain th question. This has happened a bunch of times before and I usually just quit for the night, however I cannot afford to do it right now…I have to keep going but my brain goes dead. So I have to read the question about 5 or 6 times and then I find it hard to think when trying to answer it. I know it is because I have been at it all day, however I need help on how to overcome this. Any advice on how to work through it? Is there any homemade remedies for this? Thanks……..

Somebody on this forum said that they try to remember exactly how they felt during the week of score release. Do you want to feel like you're on the cusp or do you want to feel like you're waiting for a passing score? That really helps me get my head out of my a$$. I am going to start studying tonight for FAR for the third time. Just typing those words makes me sick.

When I feel like I'm not retaining any information, I try to work the “easier” topics. And that builds my confidence. I hated working the bond multiple choice questions. So I would do 10 of them and then come back to something that I totally kicked a$$ in like accounting changes or inventory or something. Then I'd go back to bonds. Another thing that I try (I did this for Audit too since there were a billion questions). When I'd go through the questions in the software, I would do all the one-liner questions first and then I'd tackle the more difficult ones.

I did the same thing on exam day. FAR has proven to be a beast for me.

Also, if you are having motivation problems, have you looked at Jeff's ELL program (early-lunch-late)? I LOVE it. It's broken down to chunks during the day so it seems more doable than just having a grueling 4 hour study session to look forward to!

I have had that problem before as well. I take breaks from studying every hour for about ten minutes. I get on another message board (Aggie football related) and I just read some of the posts and reply. Think about something else for ten minutes.

One pitfall though, don't get too caught up in the other message board. You might look up and realize you have wasted an hour of your time!! You have to be disciplined about your breaks as much as you are about your study. They are almost as important.

I got a little bit behind in my REG class and did all my catch up work yesterday. I found that when I was having a hard time being able to comprehend a question (not because it was hard, but because I was so brain dead I would read the sentence with absolutely no focus or comprehension) that it really helped me to watch a youtube video of a pump up song or something funny. It would be a 2-4 minute break with a built in limit so I didn't get sucked in, but it would wake me up or perk me up enough to be able to keep going. And yeah, maybe I did just do five or six problems at a time before having to watch another video, but I got through a good 100 mcqs and watched a bunch of the R8 lecture.

ALSO. It is very important to me to work at a desk most of the time. If I sit on the couch or on my bed, I don't do nearly as well.

Take a longer break or chop your study time into half. When studied on weekends, I couldn't go on after 3 hours. I usually went outside grab something to eat or did some window browsing for an hour or two. Sometimes after hours of study, a small break is probably not good enough for your brain.

Diet. Eat like $hit, feel like $hit, brains like $hit, and you look like $hit. Eat foods that will give your brain energy!!

a short walk to let your mind wander and/or a double espresso shot should do the trick

I do the same thing and then lose motivation entirely! Now I'm barely even started with the studying and my test is July 16th which a vacation in the mix. It doesn't help me that I keep thinking I can't do it so I don't even bother trying to fight for the study time.
