75orbustParticipantI know its pretty variable, but what did everyone get for a pay increase (5%, 10%, more?) and for a bonus when you passed your CPA? Were your exam costs reimbursed as well?
Also what size firm were you at, and how long did it take for you to pass your exam?
I guess I would like to know what to expect or what to ask for when I get my license.
Thanks

tax_vixenParticipantWe get $5,000 bonus for passing with 1 year, $3,000 for passing in 18 months.
There is no raise for passing but the fact that you have your CPA will factor into your raise during yearly reviews. Like “Oh she's been here 3 years and she doesn't have her CPA?” means your raise won't be as nice as the person that does have theirs. But there is no automatic “You passed, here's 10%”.
I don't work for Big 4, I'm in the tier right below Big 4.

nbad311MemberSorry for the wicked old post bump, I figured if there was already a topic I don't need to make a new one!
For anyone that wants to give input:
I am having my annual review today, where I will learn of any raise/bonuses. I had a REALLY solid 2013 at work, easily my best yet while being in accounting; passed 3 exams (including my final one!) got through a big internal audit hoopla we trudge through every 2 years basically by myself, and pretty much worked without a manager for 3.5 months which she was out on maternity leave. Without boasting, I can say I've had a great year of growth and have been able to progess to way more complicated and challenging areas at work; all while my efficiency has been continuing to improve and exceed expectations (not a public accounting firm so this is of less importance, but it does mean I do about 200% the workload I did when I started here, because I have the time to)
At first I didn't expect anything big; my CPA quest is/was never about the money and promotions *. But the more I dwell on it, the more I feel like I'm going to come out of my review FUMING if I get nothing more than a 2% “cost of living” adjustment (lol wait 2% won't even cover that, more like “a *piece* of the cost of living increase”). Am I being unreasonable in my worries? This summer will mark my 6th year working full-time in accounting, so I've passed that “5-year experience” mark that some jobs look for, or usually when you can start to be within reach of a manager position; speaking of, I also don't see a promotion in my afternoon future either because our group is so small and despite the sometimes-desperate need for another staff, there are no plans for that anytime soon (a different gripe I am having, but I digress). Is the economy still “bad” meaning I need to be “grateful to even have a job”? Because those themes were all the rage like 2-3 years ago. If yes, tell me to chill out and I will try and do exactly that, sit and be content with my $20 a paycheck increase and try to focus on that fact that my CPA license apparently only translates into non-monetary value.
š
* Maybe this statement is only half true. Because I am going to get pretty butthurt if I am not rewarded with some sort of monetary compensation, not because I want money, but because that's how excelling in a career is rewarded.

JTS254ParticipantI wasn't expecting anything but I received a 16% raise after passing the final section. My private company is usually pretty slow getting around to raises but they handed it to me and as effective last pay period, and I haven't received my certificate yet. I think they were probably aware that I could jump ship pretty easily. I would be pretty disappointed with anything less than 10% at your next review.

MelParticipant@nbad I kinda feel lik i'm in your situation just haven't passed my tests yet. I say if you don't get what you want out of your meeting and if you're not going to have the opportunity to progress, start looking for a new job. Yes the economy is still bad so that means don't quit your job before finding another one but it never hurts to look and see whats out there. You may find somehting better.

TXgurlMemberCheck the comparable salaries for your experience level and also how is the economy in your city? In my city, they are pretty much begging for audit and tax with 4-5 years experience.
