Where i work, everyone knows that i am in the CPA process and unfortunately theyre always asking me to tell them how my test went. It drives me crazy to tell you the truth. Ive been passing so far but now I failed FAR and im embarrassed to have to say that i failed when they ask (and they’ll ask).

Sorry about the score. That really sucks. I'd be feeling the same way if I were you.

Just remember, the people who give you crap or think less of you for not passing are probably not worth it anyways. Plenty of successful CPAs have failed a section or more, so don't fret.

Remember, when you're done it will only say CPA, not how many times you took it. Everyone else's will look the same.

First – When did you get your score? If you haven't gotten it yet then there is still hope and that is a good thing!

Second – If your score is below 75 then you just have a score below 75. You haven't failed. The only way to fail is to quit.

Third – I hate that question too. I think everyone does. I have learned to just say “We'll see when scores come out” and change the subject.

Nothing wrong with accepting a failure. Think about it this way, most of the people who are constanlty asking are probably jealous of you. Also, if you're not ready to accept a failure, just say that you haven't received your score yet. Also, consider not telling anyone at work that you are sitting for a section… sometimes when people ask, I simply say “I haven't scheduled it yet”… they eventually stop asking.

@OP…sorry about that…when are you going to retake it? Is it the last one? If you don't feel like telling them the truth and have another one behind FAR, you can just tell them you pass and on your way to the next one…then you just secretly study two for one…if that helps you feel better.

Sorry bro. I know how it is. FAR is a bear.

I can see admitting you didn't pass to be potentially embarrassing at an Accounting firm. But where I work, a college bar, receiving an NTS and actually scheduling an exam is a bigger accomplishment than many of my co-workers/Bar-attenders have received.

With that being said, it was a lot easier for me to say “I'm 100% sure I didn't pass,” in which they responded “Well that sucks”

I guess it's just one of those things we have to deal with.

    Just a thought… probably nothing…

But have you considered the possibility that they ask because they care and are rooting for you?

Sometimes when we let ourselves down, we tend to get overly self-conscious, and think that the whole world is laughing at us. That's seldom the case.

But yes, some people are worthless jerks, and fill empty holes in their lives with the misfortunes of others. They can't affect you unless you let them. My advice – don't let them.

    Good luck on round two!

This is actually part of the reason that I didn't tell any of my immediate co-workers that I'm going thru the process.

I took and passed BEC in Feb and didn't say one thing about it; now onto AUD next month.

People are generally wrapped up in their own lives, such that if you don't want this to be common knowledge among everyone, they don't have to know. Maybe confide in 1-2 people that you trust and don't mind sharing the ups and downs with.

I'm sure I'll let it slip at some point, and let people cheer me on to the finish, but as of now, only my immediate family and friends know, not my co-workers.

    BEC - 82
    AUD - 65; retake Feb 2013
    FAR - April 2013
    REG - July 2013?

I'm with NYCpat; I have told as few people as possible. I even go so far as to schedule my exams for Saturday mornings so my absence from work would not be noted. I don't see a reason to give the hens at work anything more to cluck about.

Sorry I don't have any advice OP. Good luck!

Just start crying. Trust me, it will make them so uncomfortable, they won't ask again. Worked for me.

Me too on the Saturday exam windows. I study at night and on weekends…only my friends notice my absences from social events.

    AUD - 65; retake Feb 2013
    FAR - April 2013
    REG - July 2013?
