Hey everyone and Happy Friday! Just finished up around noon with the FAR section. I felt really good this time around (unlike the last time 😉 ). I actually dedicated my studies and put int the extra work. I budgeted for 2.5 months with roughly 15-20 hrs a week. I used a combination of Gleim’s test prep and Yaeger’s cram. BTW I love Phil and Cindy. Of course I feel their “old school” format really works for the type of learner I am. Anyways in summary the test wasn’t as bad as I last remembered. First testlet ate some of the clock (not bad), but two was sticky and three was a breeze. There were a few items that I just couldn’t remember and had to give an educated guess to–this is expected!! IFRS is an area candidates should really dedicate themselves to and not to take it lightly. I really like the new format of 7 mini-TBS as they really are forgiving in numbers. You know…more chances to shine. In summary I left the exam with a good feeling and not much doubt. I didn’t leave feeling disoriented like I did last time. This is just my .02 cents and wanted to drop a line before I wrap my weekend up with my honey-do list that is roughly 50 yards long and a bit of R&R. Good luck to anyone else taking FAR in this window. Have a nice weekend!

I took FAR today and thought it stunk. The MC was okay, but the simulations were all journal entry mania with not enough time to do all of them. I thought it was way harder than I took in May (and somehow did not pass). I really hate this CPA exam. It seems like a crapshoot determines how some people in some states pass, and how others in other states pass. I hated the simulations with a passion. Why does it have to be all stupid journal entries? What about other challenging topics? Please AICPA, tell me you are trying to create business leaders, not just micro-bookkeepers.

My one complaint with FAR would be the taxation questions. for example: what is taxable income?….some of these topics belong in REG?

ps: I am enjoying the weekeend….just doing some post FAR reflection.

Probably test questions, I noticed for other exams that most of the questions that didn't “belong” were all from the same topic from another section. Remember they throw out like 12 questions.

    B - 85 (5/31/11)
    A - 93 (7/1/11)
    R - 87 (7/29/11)
    F - 77 (8/31/11)

Sims are not the worst. I wasn't able to complete one of my simulations last year when I took FAR. I honestly feel that seven are better than two. These new sims are smaller and digestible. If I'm stuck on a sim, I move to the next one and then come back to the sim to provide something. I try to give the best educated guess. I've heard of candidates knowing they crashed and burned on the sims, yet still manage to pass the whacky exam.
