Best way to study for Research Questions and SIMS?

I’ve read on here about how some people only complete MCQs and only complete SIMS for an idea on the structure. Then I’ve been told to do every SIM possible. Is there a consensus on which method is better.

Also, I’ve gone through the codification tutorials, but am not sure on how to best be prepared. The obvious answer is to take practice research SIMS, but is that the only way to study for them?

    Any advice on either topics?

I am one of the people who advocates just studying the MCQs and only completing practice SIMS for an idea of the structure.

My reasoning is that the number of potential topics for SIMS on the exam is ever increasing, it is very unlikely you will get a SIM on your exam that is similar to one from your practice materials. Your best bet is to have a good understanding of a wide variety of topics and the best way to do that is to do more MCQs.

For FAR I plan on doing the AICPA Adapted problems from my Int. Acg. book (Kieso) for the major topics. If you can do those, I'm sure the simulations can't be any harder, unless it's IFRS related.

Do the SIMS I dont think knowing the MC will get you better at SIMS, they make you think different I did alot of sims after I faild audit and REG and it helped. And also someone here wrote a very good tutorial on the research like a research question asking about subsiquent events so you would look in field work in the table of contents for audit. But honestly on reg I did a word search.

I'm of the belief that the best way to prepare is just to write lots of notes, practice a lot of MC, and do a few SIMS so you are comfortable with the structure of them. I've never seen one on the exam that I completed as a practice SIM. If you fully understand the concepts, you'll be fine. Don't forget that you can also use the research tab to help you along if you are drawing any blanks.
