What’s the best way to practice SIMS?

I’m studying for FAR now. Using Becker, but there doesn’t seem to be many options for practicing SIMS. Just one in each section, right? (Not sure yet, I’m still on chapter 2).

Just planning ahead and would like advice for being prepared on SIMS

    thanks!

If you actually bought your materials from Becker then you got a separate disk with all of the SIMS. That being said, I still recommend getting the Wiley online test bank. It has a ton of sims as well and is pretty cheap.

    Thanks, Minimorty –

Yes, I bought the Becker books and CD's, but don't seem to have received a SIMs CD. I received one CD for each of the 4 sections.

Was I suppose to receive something else?

Should I call Becker to verify?

P.S. Also, thanks for recommending Wiley. I've been seriously considering buying it for the additional practice questions. I will look into that…

There should be a CD with the two final exams for each section and all the simulations. Do you see the final exams anywhere? Did you buy the course as a package or did you buy per section?

I don't think there's a separate disk. But from the home page, click on “Simulations,” this opens up another window which has simulations and final exams for each section.

I disagree. I used Wiley for FAR and they did NOT prepare you for the SIMS on the exam- I was totally shocked. The Wiley SIMS are way too easy.

    FAR 61, 82! ( 11/9/12)
    AUD 67, (4/19/13) WAITING!!

You were shocked because you didn't understand the material. All the review courses have the same material, it's just presented in a different manner. If you truly understand the concepts, it doesn't matter what the questions look like on the exam.

there isn't a separate disk. after installing the Becker CD, you should have two icons on your PC – Becker Review and Becker SIM and Final Exam.

I don't have that. Do you have 2011 or 2012 version? I have 2012. Maybe they changed it, or did you buy the final review course? Maybe the extra sims come with that?

I do have some practice sims in each chapter. But, I was wondering if it's enough?

My 2012 version had all the sims on the same CD as everything else same as the OP describes.

The Wiley SIMS do NOT prepare you for the actual exam SIMs. The Wiley MCQs are great, and comparable to the exam (on average, not easier or harder than the exam). But the SIMS – forget it. Wiley SIMS are SO EASY and require very little time and very little practice integrating two or three different topics into a single scenario in a limited space of time. It's not the SIMs on the exam are hard from a “will you know the material” aspect. It's more from a time management aspect. The one I had were all long and detailed and required multiple calculations over various steps. I was disappointed that Wiley was so grossly under par for the difficulty of the SIMs.
