I have been following the forum for a while. My agency just sent me the email where I was approved to receive the Becker CPA Review. I should have the textbooks within 10 days. I plan on starting with FAR. Any advice on the amount of study time I should allow before I schedule to test? Any advice is appreciated.

The same advice that was shared with me when I started.
It is recommended to not study more than 10 weeks for FAR. 8 weeks study, 2 for review.
You will not feel ready, you will NEVER feel ready, thats normal. Buckle up buttercup! It's gonna be a bumpy ride.

It totally depends on the amount of time that you can put into studying each week. I studied 2.5 weeks but completely full time. 8am-4pm M-F with no studying on the weekend. That's 100 hours.
So start with making your weekly schedule and then determine the number of weeks using that expectation. Be diligent with your schedule and you can do it!

Thank you! I took about 3 months off between jobs so that I could just get it done for good! It was a huge blessing. I'm so glad it paid off!

I studied for FAR during busy season. I did about an hour a day during the week, 4 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday for about 12 weeks. It was the best I could do being out of town on audits for about 2/3 of the time I was studying, but I would recommend trying to burn through the course as fast as your schedule allows. I did about 2 weeks of review and realized as soon as I started that I had really forgotten a lot of the material. FAR has a lot of information that doesn't tie together in the way that REG and AUD material does, so the longer you take to study, the more studying you have to do. To answer your question, I would just study for a couple weeks and see how far you get in your material and schedule based on that. I always give myself 2 weeks for review just in case one or two of the chapters take longer than I anticipate.

@Jason welcome to the battle. Some of us have been here longer than others, and really need to pass. But one thing we have learned is there is no easy way to pass. you must study if you're going to pass. The CPA study materials will depend upon how you learn. Everyone gave good advice, take it in and do your best. Good luck to you. And if at all possible, forget the overkill, you can strive for 100 but 75 is passing, so studying one part for one year is NOT NECESSARY.

@ Jason – Forget about having a social life, friends, and family.

Social Life and friends – You won't have time and after studying for a while they won't recognized you anyways.

Family – Your family will wonder why you are always MIA at family functions. If you have kids, they may no longer recognized you.
*Mommy who's that man in our house? and where's daddy?*

If you have a wife or girlfriend expect to have some fights especially when you are studying so much there is a miscommunication and they think you are having an affair.
*Wife or Girlfriend – Are having an affair? Who is this Becker person you are spending so much time with?*

You will be spending a lot of time at coffee shops and will have a high tolerance for large amounts of caffeine. Your coffee shop Barista will be your only best friend the because she brings you the Elixir of life “Coffee” as you are cramming for CPA exams.
