Becker: Which first, Final Review or Practice Exams???

I am sitting for FAR this coming Friday, July 2nd. Looking to pass this monster the first time through.

I have gone through all the Becker chapters as much as I feel I possibly could. I am ready to do the Final Review and take the two practice exams on the regular Becker software. I am allowing myself a day off tomorrow to relax but then I have Monday and Tuesday nights, plus Wednesday and Thursday all day and night to work on Final Review and practice exams. Which should I do first? I am thinking practice exams Monday night and then Final Review Tuesday night, Wednesday, and Thursday. But maybe the practice exams would best be saved for last. Any opinions one way or the other?

Just go for it whatever. If you're already confident that you went through the chapters enough then just try your hand at doing an exam. Or just mix it up. I don't think either way is going to be a bad strategy for you.

Practice exams throughout – these MC questions come from the homework questions. You can do as many of these tests as you want. The questions change each time. You can take one chapter or all of them. Great way to keep material fresh in your mind.

Final exam – take this during your review period after you finish all the chapters.

Hey, I'm in the same boat you are in, (sitting July 2nd as well, good luck to you!). I just finished my Becker book review – each chapter & the homework, and I took one of the exams the normal program provides last night. I'm starting the Final Review today, then probably Thursday I'll take the second exam review provided by the normal program. I know I have memorized the mc in the normal program, so I feel for me it's best to start the Final Review, take new notes, go over new questions and smooth over any area I am weaker in.

Everyone's different though, just give yourself enough time to go over Final Review since you purchased it.

After you complete Becker's Final Review could you give us your feedback on it? How much time should be devoted to the Final Review – did you find it helpful? I am sure there are many of us who would be interested in your feedback.

Thanks – and the best of luck to you!

    cpa journey,

I used Final Review for Auditing and honestly, I feel it's just a very, very broad recap of everything, and a ton of simulations. I think it's good to practice simulations, but in terms of reinforcing what you learned, I don't think it's all that great. Put it this way: It can't hurt. It throws all the important things together in one place for you to review before the exam, but if you're having problems on an area, Final Review won't help you in the least. It's more of a refresher of what you do know already.

Well, I've finished sections 1-5 out of 15 for the final review software. I really like it so far but I assume this is because of two reasons; A I learn better being taught and following along over just reading on my own, and B this is my first section going into the exam and I'm trying to soak up anything I can for this beast of an exam.

Becker does a really good job of walking you through the simulations, (however I am disappointed they don't walk you through a simulation about bonds). And I'm also a little disappointed with the selection of mc questions – some appeared to be the same from what I saw during the normal part of Becker… and I thought this would be a brand new bank of questions.

I saw before someone saying they suggest 2 weeks for Final Review – I started Sunday and expect to finish Wednesday.. The lectures are around 30 minutes each, around 10-15 multiple choice for each section (you probably walk through completing 5 for each grouping) and the sims you pretty much walk through with the instructors as well.

Thanks for your insight. Sounds like you are ready and I wish you both good luck! I had purchased the Final Review but wanted feedback from people who had actually used it.

May the beast ask what you have studied!

    studyingismynewhobby,

I think you may have (hopefully) misunderstood wherever you heard to give two weeks for the Final Review. You probably heard two weeks for your final review. But for the Becker Final Review program, this is supposed to be done AFTER your own individual final review, as I understand.

Becker recommends doing the Final Review program as close to the exam date as possible.

I went through the regular Becker course, took about 2.5 weeks to go through the materials a second time, re-doing the questions, skimming lectures, reviewing flashcards, etc, and now I am doing the Final Review starting tomorrow night, all day Wednesday, and all day Thursday. Exam Friday.

So you are doing it right. Final Review should be the last thing you do before the exam.

Sadly I don't think I misread the posting, however the person typing it wasn't as clear as they could have been … I just won't be putting as much confidence in anything I read on Becker's Face Book page.

Anyhoo, my full 2 week review is over, the software final review is in progress to be finished Wednesday, I'll take the second practice exam Thursday and gloss over the rest of the topics Thursday before the exam.

Good luck to us both! I am prepared to conquer the beast and enjoy two weeks of happiness before beginning to study for REG.

    Thank you, best of luck!

Any tips for Audit? Sadly I need to start slowly studying next week for that section and then sit for that 08/14.
