Becker, Difference between Progress Test & Simulated Exam

How are the Progress Tests any different from the simulated exams (not the final exams next to the simulations)?

They seem to me like they’re the same thing, but with the progress tests you can pick and choose the content. But other than that, if you’re at the end of the course, I think they’re the same, and I think that they’re pulling questions from the same source–the multiple choice questions from each chapter. Anyone have any insight on this? I’m taking FAR on Friday.

The FAR Becker review contains both a Progress Test and Sim Final Exams.

You are correct the Progress Tests are from the homework. The Final Exams are new questions. There is the separate Final Review Study material that has more sims and, lectures and MCQ.

Progress Tests are good for reviewing the material as you continue to study. The Final Exam lets you know where your strong and weak areas are.

hockeyfan you are right. the simulated exam and progress tests are the same but the progress lets you pick and choose. They are pulled from the mc and supplemental questions randomly. The final exam is the one in the separate program that looks like the actual exam with simulations and those are said to be harder than the actual exam and different set of questions. So as far as the basic becker software, there are 3 different tests you can do and 2 of them are the exact same pretty much.

cpa journey, I would say the progress test lets you know where your strong and weak areas are since they break it down in chapters and how you did. the final exam doesnt as its like a practice of the real one and doesnt really break it down as far as which chapters to work on.

Vince I looked at the Becker Final exam questions yesterday and indeed they are slightly harder than the progress test questions. In your opinion since you have already taken the FAR exam do you think those questions in the Becker final review overall where alot more difficult that the actual questions you encountered in the FAR exam?

Mostly I agree with you. After I take the Final Exam – the review of incorrect answers can identify weak areas, During my BEC Final Exam review I had incorrectly answered a couple of MCQ related to LLC. Reviewed the text related to LLC – waiting to see how I did on BEC.

    Vince, thanks for the reply.

That's what I thought, because I was seeing similar questions in the simulated exam and the progress test.

whonis2002, To be exact, my final exam scores came out at 58.89% for the 1st one, 61% for the 2nd final exam. Those are just the M/C since I dont think grading sims for a gauge of your performance is efficient since they are topic specific and you can get anything on the actual. I would say that they were harder than the actual, but I also studied more after the last final exam bc I felt very uneasy. Just for comparison since I kept all my performance for each section, my progress tests (which come from the pool of M/C and supplementals) where 59%, 84%, then 83%. Just try your best and work your hardest. I never worked so hard on a test in my life. I walked out of FAR almost not being able to hold myself up like if I was drunk. It was really weird.

hockeyfan, glad I can help ☺
