BEC is a foreign language?!

I thought REG was hard, until I saw chapter 1 of BEC.. Cost accounting was the worst class ever.. The MCQ’s are CRAZY… Is this even a big part of the exam? I heard people should just focus on 3 & 5? and that some people never had any cost accounting questions?

What should I really be focusing on? Also — after I finish the q’s with Becker, should I focus some time on Wileys Test Bank as well?

    Thanks!

Should I waste some time reading the chapter before I do the problems? Or should I attempt to solve the problems while looking in the book and learning that way? I really need some advice because REG was easier to study for, this is really a difficult subject for me.

I think its important to follow the Becker layout as in watching the videos or in the very least reading the chapter. At first I thought it was so random and bizarre but practicing the MCQ's after gaining an understanding on the material is helping a lot. I'm in my final review and it makes more sense than it did in the beginning, however variances still suck and I get about 50% wrong lol I can't grasp the concept

    FAR 4/9/12- PASSED
    BEC 7/13/12- PASSED
    AUD 8/16/12- Ughhh 71, Rematch: 90!!!
    REG-12/6/12 PASSED

Note to myself: it's a non-disclose exam. Yet, I've seen tons of comments regarding cost accounting Qs, namely the difficult ones. I remember that I used the calculator alot.

I took BEC on 7/03/12. If you are studying from Becker. My advice is to focus more on Chapter 1,3,4, and 5. Also, you might want see some IT questions on your exam that are not in Becker.. Dont be shocked. Just guess lol.

Im having a REALLY hard time being motivated to study BEC.. It took me 2 days to just get the lecture done. I've only done 15% of the homework, and I am guessing on the majority of it? This is not a good sign.. This alone makes me want to just give up and go into another field maybe IT or something. BEC seriously is a foreign language. I am doubting that I can do this in 23 days. I have my exam scheduled for July 31st, and I am only 11% done on the homework for B1.

I think I might just have to move AUD up when I start working, and reschedule BEC for maybe August 15.

This sucks.. I don't know what to do.

I think BEC & REG are the ones best suited to take as soon after u graduate as u can while the material is freshest. AUD, for most, is gonna be new material. FAR basics r gonna be pounded into u anyway. Just keep at it! Good thing about BEC is that ur guaranteed to get a bunch of super easy q's. Bad side: they're mixed in with a bunch of random ass q's as well. Also: IT is in BEC! I also hated B1 (COSO stuff) but ended up doing fine. REG is my beast.

    REG - Passed!!

    FAR - Passed
    AUD - Passed

If you read the posts of the people that have failed and had to retake a section a number of times (including BEC) you'll read about how different the exam was each time they took it.

Cost accounting is not that difficult, but does seem overwhelming at first. Once it clicks you'll really understand it. I don't think there is a lot of middle ground on some of those concepts.

That being said- there is a lady on youtube; SusanCrossing or something liek that. Search for Managerial accounting. When I prepared for the CMA her videos helped me a lot. She's annoying, but her explanations start from scratch and are good.

Don't skimp out on anything man. You can't risk hoping that the exam will or will not cover certain areas.

Yes, cost accounting can be a little rough at first but like any CPA exam, the only way to get good at it is through repetition and practice.

The way I studied each section so far has been:

    1. Watch videos, do MCQs, then do supplemental Qs for each main section.

    2. After finish all main sections and sims, take first practice exam.

    3. Do many many many 100 MCQs quizzes. Enough until I can answer each question pretty much from memorization

    4. Take the 2nd practice exam

It's worked for me so far.

    FAR: 87
    AUD: 86
    BEC: 86
    REG: 84! Officially Done!

BEC was a brutal experience for me. Don't skip anyhing because its

all connected. It also helps some other parts like the ratios for FAR.

If I can pass BEC anyone can. Just decide to give up an entire year for all 4 parts and hit it hard.

I never dreamed that I would be this close to passing. AUD was the easiest FAR is the longest BEC was the craziest, Reg I knew

    Reg 11/15/2011 - 80
    Aud 02/28/2012 - 81
    Bec 05/31/2012 - 78
Far 08/31/2012 - 83 Do you believe in Miracles, YES !!!

@ Sandra, does the video of that women cover Variances? I'm really not sure why I am not grasping them. The material's priced variance and fixed overhead variance I understand but the remaining ones I get wrong half the time because I'm unsure of which numbers to use!

    FAR 4/9/12- PASSED
    BEC 7/13/12- PASSED
    AUD 8/16/12- Ughhh 71, Rematch: 90!!!

I was scouring the forum for some help with variances and found these two videos:

They helped a little, but what helped me the most was that Becker uses the question information, but asks for different variances such as spending, efficiency, and volume variance. It was hard to figure out what to use until I printed out the question and wrote the 3 answers next to each other when I set up the “A BA BS A” format.

I am having such a hard time with B1… esp. the cost accounting portion. I am finding myself guessing on almost all of the questions.. Each question takes me 8-15 minutes to complete.. I hated cost when I took it last year, even though I had an A in the class, I worked my @ss off for the 3.5 months.

I am really thinking of rescheduling BEC and giving myself 5 full time weeks to study this material and maybe get a Yaeger CRAM or something like that. I'd rather study REG then this. Im not sure what to do. I was going to give myself 3.5 weeks for AUD & 3.5 for BEC, it seems now I will have to push AUD to when I start working and give myself 2 months part time, and BEC 5 full weeks.

BEC is doable, hang in there but don't under estimate this part. There is a reason it is the smallest amount of material. It almost ruined my marriage but passing was liberating. Cost and IT are important topics

    Reg 11/15/2011 - 80
    Aud 02/28/2012 - 81
    Bec 05/31/2012 - 78
