Average trending score is killing me

    Good morning,

    I am preparing for FAR. I went through Roger’s. It was enjoyable and helpful. CPA Excel is too boring and leaves me unable to properly focus on the material. My plan is to cram on MCQs as I have already been over the material. On my first pass, I am getting an average score in the upper 50s. While it is horrible, I am ok with it. It just means that I need to review even more. However, my Average Trending Score is 21 percent. That is just crushing. Any advice? I am going to stick with it until I pass it, but I find such a low ATS really bothersome.

    Thanks!!!!!!

    Are you focusing on all areas or just certain ones during your MC sessions? I have been stuck with average and trending in the 60s for a while which is frustrating but hoping to bring the scores up over my last few weeks

    REG - 82
    AUD - 97
    BEC - 81
    FAR - 84
    DONE!

    My plan is to go through them all in order. I am going to spend one day each weekend review old MCQs. I feel that I have the intellectual capacity to make it, and I am will to put in the work. However, I am just shocked by my low average trending score.

    I think I might have made a mistake. In FAR section 1 (Conceptual) my average trending score is a 73. I am part of the way through section 2. My average trending score is 38%. Maybe my total score is only 22% as I have not been through everything.

    I just passed FAR on the last score release and, while my trending percentage wasn't as low as yours, our average scores were about the same.

    My stats were:
    Average- 56%
    Trending- 60%
    Actual- 81

    Just know that the NINJA MCQs are difficult and if you can work hard on getting the trending up in to the 50s or 60s, you should have a fighting chance. Don't let the test defeat you before you even walk in. Go in with confidence and hope for the best!

    LOL! I was freaking out about the same thing at first. Your total score is based on all sections even if you have not done any of the questions for those sections. Score will rise with every section you complete to give you an actual total.

    CPA EXAM: DONE!!!!
    Ethics Course: Passed
    Application Mailed: 3/16/15
    Professional Conduct Exam: 97
    Certification Date: 4/2/15!!!

    You need to keep in mind that trending score is based on the questions right, questions missed, and questions remaining. I went through every single question in FAR until I got them right so at the end of going through each section my trending score was 100% now clearly i'm no where near 100% ready for this exam so now as i'm doing mini quizzes and such and going through problem areas my trending score has dropped to an 89% and even that isn't exactly where i'm at, at the moment.

    REG - 63,74,70,81!!!
    FAR - 44,73, 81!!!!
    AUD - 51,81!
    BEC - 73,77!!

    3 years later and I'm officially done. Never give up no matter what!

    I think I know what is happening. I used Ninja MCQ for BEC and AUD. For BEC I didn't notice this as much as I did with AUD. Ninja MCQ breaks the topics into sections. For AUD, there are 6 sections. My approach was to focus on one section at a time and move on after I had taken sufficient samples from each section. It appeared that the trending score was a function of the % you got right from each of the 6 sections. This is shooting from the hip here, but if you got 100% of the questions correct from the first two sections, then you would have a trending score of 2/6 or 33.3%.

    I didn't get into the 80's on my trending score until I had worked approximately 4-5 of these sections thoroughly. Another thing I noticed was that if you go back and answer Missed questions correctly, it counts positively towards your trending score. Although there were 1500 questions available, I got to almost 100% on my trending score although I had only attempted 800 of the questions. The reason was that those 800 questions covered a substantial portion of each of the 6 sections, and I had gone back and answered correctly all 800 questions. This is important to know, because I wasn't getting the metric that I really wanted from the 100% trending score. So I then started focusing only on the questions that I hadn't yet seen, randomly from all 6 sections. Then my trending score started to drop, ultimately down to an 88% just before exam time. I hope this answers your question. (once you attempt to answer a bulk of the questions from all 6 sections, you will see a more realistic trending score).

    Im using Roger for Audit, and I noticed that some of the questions (20%) from Ninja go into much detail compared to what Roger covers and this might be the reason why your average score is so low. Im focusing on average and not trending, i noticed on the ninja vs actual thread that people who average in the low 70s usually score a lot higher on the real exam. There were a few exceptions, but only with REG.

    FAR= 72-84
    Audit= 73-82
    BEC= 74-75
    Reg=77
