I understand there is an on-screen calculator available, but I’m wondering if we’re allowed to bring a basic 10-digit calculator? They’re just so much faster to use and could save a lot of critical time needed for MCQ’s

Nope, we can't take anything in.

Unfortunately, you can't. You must use the calculator on the computer. I hate it just as much as you guys, but we just have to get used to it. I have to admit though, I like this new tape calculator a lot better than the older calculator used on the old format.

Do the computers at Prometric at least have a numeric keypad on the right? Or do you have to use the keys above the letters?

You can use the numeric keypad on the right side of your keyboard.

You may want to take a look at the sample exam on cpa-exam.org

What you see there will be EXACTLY what you'll see at Prometric.

Thanks for the info and reminder about the sample exam. I definitely need to check that out.

It is not too terrible. It has a “tape” function that lets you see your previous solutions for multi-step calculations. Saves a little bit of time instead of writing down each calculation step on your scratch paper. Also if your “tape” scrolls down to where you cannot see your first solution you can click in the window and use the up arrow, if I remember correctly.
