I didn’t necessarily plan it this way, but I’m feeling the pressure from this potential mistake. I can’t help but feel I’m preparing for a test that no longer exists as of 12/31/2010. What is the 2011 CPA Exam?

Truth be told; nobody knows. Other than the AICPA gods, we’re all strangers to the new test. Even our go-to man Jeff doesn’t have the answers. We could all argue GAAP is GAAP and much of the accounting is the same, but the sheer bulk of testable information makes the format and approach key.

My biggest fear is a less detail oriented exam, and more of an IFRS vs GAAP quick recall session. I’ll be honest; I’m not preparing for an IFRS heavy exam. I’m reading the differences, and what sticks sticks, but I’m in no way ‘fluent’ with IFRS.

I have the 2011 Becker material, and even shorted some family members on Christmas presents this year to fund my 2011 Becker Final Review purchase. Yet from what I can tell, Becker doesn’t have the answers either.

I’m all for taking on an adventure, but this is one undertaking I’d like to sit out. On January 4th, high-noon, I’ll be sitting eye to eye with the unfamiliar face of our new villain. And honestly, I’m terrified.

    *Stay tuned for post-exam updates*

@words-o-wisdom and keeptrying – have you downloaded the sample exam from the aicpa website?

    https://www.aicpa.org/BecomeACPA/CPAExam/ForCandidates/TutorialandSampleTest/Pages/UniformCPAExamSampleTest.aspx

not sure if it would help – but it could relieve you of some stress by getting more familiar with the exam layout or even exam questions. i'm scheduled to take financial in january as well so i share your apprehension on the new exam format, grading, and ifrs material.

i'm also hoping that there will be a greater curve the first quarter as i'm sure nobody really knows what to expect from the new exams. as they say, “the greater the risk, the greater the reward!”

good luck! (and happy new year!)

Good luck. I had originally had FRA scheduled for 1/27 but moved it to Feb as I'm not feeling ready to retake it. I also have the Becker 2011 material and CPAExcel, mostly to practice as many MCQs as possible and the new TBS structure which is HEAVY on JEs, not a strong point for me. I already have over 300 note cards written on my notes and still have ch 7-9 to go. I'm doing as Jeff recommends and rewriting the notes too, more than once.

I found this sample exam also

    https://apps.aicpa.org/CBTeSampleTest/SampleTestInstPreMet.html

It seemed to work better with my Windows install – you need to use Internet Explorer rather than Firefox

I'm with you! I'm sitting on Wednesday 1/5. I'm reviewing IFRS, but not worrying too much about it. I'm hoping that the IFRS will be pretest questions- they would have to be pretest wouldn't they? They've never been asked before…well that's what I'm hoping anyways. 🙂 Some things about IFRS stand out, but others I forget. I'll review my comparissons on Wednesday morning (quickly), but I'm not going to stress about it. Good luck tomorrow! I'll be looking forward to your update
