I am using Becker and F8 and F9 are like different languages. I assume these topics are heavily tested?

Try studying your GNFP book instead if you have one. GNFP covers about 20% of the entire exam, so you have to be sharp on these.

These are seriously important topics to master for FAR. If you don't have these down, you'll feel like they're haunting you. The only advice I have is to practice the MCs until you want to puke.

    FAR 88 (07/15/11)
    BEC 83 (08/31/11)
    AUD 81 (10/15/11)
    REG 83 (11/26/11)

    Used NIU Correspondence CPA Review

I was able to sneak through My FAR exam with a weaker score in both Government and Not-for-Profit accounting.

I just did MCQs until I felt like I had a basic understanding of fund accounting, them hoped for the best on my test.

you absolutely HAVE to know F8 & F9 in Becker… Although I feel like F9 goes over way too much information! To the point where you feel info overload! In my personal opnion, I don't think it's crucial to know every detail of the reconciliations between Gov't Funds to Gov't Wide Financial Statements….As long as you know your funds, classifications, how funds are related, terminologies, budget J/Es, you should be golden.

As far as NFP accounting, it's actually not that hard since it's reported completely on the accrual basis…just study it piece meal.. practice makes perfect 🙂 good luck!

extremely important to know BOTH topics…multiple choice will have 20% Gov't/Nonprofit….SIMS could have up to multiple ones on either topic. Government is very difficult; Not for Profit isn't too bad

Not sure when you are taking the exam but I thought Yaeger covered these very well and by all means, YES, they are important to know!

    AUD - 82 Becker
    BEC - 75 Becker
    REG - 71, 82 Becker
    FAR - 66,61,71,74,70 and #6 80!!!! FINALLY DONE!!! 9/20/12
Yaeger and Yaeger CRAM for the final battle!

    @jjm

Surprisingly I got both Gov & NP stronger on my exams.

Gov – you have to understand the J/E and the big picture

I'm in agreement with hilaryh_88. I had never seen any Governmental or NFP accounting until starting to study for the CPA exam, but feel like I have a solid understanding (proven by my scores on MCQ's) thanks to Yaeger. Cindy and Gary do a great job covering these topics.

It was heavily tested on my FAR exam- both MC and SIM. I used Yaeger and also felt like they did a good job teaching it. In fact, those portions of the test were actually easy for me, especially compared to some of the other topics, which I didn't always understand so well…

Side note, where are you all finding out details about your test scores? i.e. people have commented that they scored average or above average on SIMS or MC, etc. What I saw was just a raw score, no additional info.
