LStevens225ParticipantJust curious if anyone has gone into FAR with less than a trending score of 85% or whatever your review course says to achieve and you still passed? I still have two more days of studying but I am not sure I will make it to that 85%.
Thanks!

StgeorgeParticipant@klink24 thanks for the advice I guess I wont worry about practice exams and just keep drilling MCQ and trying to understand things I get wrong.. so hard though, I havent looked at the SIMs yet but I have 7 days with 25 percent done of all MCQ. I am going backwards started with NFT on my review currently in SHE and writing notes reviewing the chapters, after I do the MCQ for that section. Any advice on how to make my review studying more effective? I also try to review what I did in the mornings but just really quickly.

klink24ParticipantFor FAR I started with the MCQ sections that had the fewest questions and worked my way up from there. I figured if WTB had more questions on a topic it might be covered more on the exam. Doing those closer to the exam date would make it fresher in my mind.
When I went through the questions I only looked back at my CPAExcel material if there was something I couldn't figure out from the question explanation and/or reference material in WTB. I definitely took notes on every question I got wrong, and sometimes on those I got right if it was a topic I didn't have a firm grasp on yet. I didn't do any review until I was done with all MCQ. Not suggesting you do the same, because had I reviewed daily I might have done even better.
I had 2 days of review where I read back through all of my material notes and WTB notes, trying my best to commit as much to memory as possible. I'd go back in WTB to work some problems related to topics I struggled with to make sure I understood them.
That's pretty much it in a nutshell. As I'm sure you've heard others say, do not neglect Govt/NFP. I rushed through those in my material and didn't review as much as I should have. It panicked me during the test but luckily I got by.

kpbMemberStgeorge, besides the amount of time I spent freaking out (so nervous) and stressed, i stopped logging my time this week. but I WAS spending 6-9 hours a day studying and I started studying may 27th. I only have 6 more days, so all im doing in the short amount of time I have to RE-RE-review everything is go over my becker flash cards and my notes i took which isnt alot but its the most important stuff i missed on the homework and then attempt progress tests (10-15 questions at once) for each chapter…. I'm working on 6-7 today, 8-9 tomorrow, 1-10 next day, then hopefully do as much progress tests as possible. I'm debating if i should even do both practice tests as it will just kill my confidence even more than it already is killed now, i'd rather save myself the stress… 🙁 you?

klink24Participant@kpb, the only people that go in knowing everything are those people with 99s. Then again, I don't think they do either. They just know a lot more than anyone else. It's impossible to know everything, and I think AICPA understands that.

kpbMemberklink24, thanks hun! I am sooooo tired of this crap….it sucks even more knowing I have gone through this book 2-3 times and when I was JUST starting to get it, as I moved on to other chapters, I forgot A LOT of what I was finally starting to understand (by the 2nd or 3rd time) ….. I mean, i will say that I feel much more comfortable with Gov and kind of NFP though since i struglled with it so much in college (gov)… that's my hope. Ive studied for this way to long and idk if it helped or hurt me now. :/

StgeorgeParticipant@KPB it sounds like you are in a better position than me. I started studying back in Mid May, but could not be as consistent because of working full time. About 4 days ago I finished reading all chapters, doing all MCQ, and SIMs, using Wiley CPA Excel 2014. Now I am using the WTB and working backwards starting from NFT. I review each chapter, take notes, do the MCQ in WTB and move on. My average score right now is a 70% flat… which is not great. This is my first time reviewing the material so at least you have already reviewed the material a 2nd/3rd time.I also try to get in around 8hrs of studying a day, which really is like 7 hours of legit studying. I have currently done 400 MCQ in WTB and reviewing stockholders equity. I dont know if I will get to 1600 MCQ, but I am going to try. It takes me about 2 hours just to review and take my notes on a chapter, so currently only at around alittle over 100 MCQ a day. I try to review what i already reviewed in the mornings but very quickly I think I will print out my notes and start reviewing them harder once I get more MCQ and chapters reviewed.

klink24Participant@kpb, I know how you feel. I went straight through the material and didn't review as I went. When I started WTB, I felt like I was doing questions for a section I'd never seen before, lol. It was horrible!

kpbMemberStgeorge, i'm not really sure if im in a better position than you honestly. I may have reviewed it more times but what's the point if im forgetting it anyway?
if you're just finished reading all the chapters then that stuff is probably fresher in your brain than mines. 70% is great!!! don't beat yourself up for that, I'm averaging 80 from chapters 1-5, but bonds/leases (5) is my lowest score as of now which sucks. But i'm also using my book whenever I feel uncertain about a question which for me is a plus as i havent seen this material in about amonth because i was doing the later chapters! Looking in the book helps me to refresh my memory.
I feel you, it takes so long to review this stuff as there is so much detail.

kpbMemberklink24, that gives me some hope then…. did you feel like you could remember a lot of the stuff on the exam?
I know for Becker, the questions are ridiculously long and hard and on the exam they tend not to be sooooooooooooo long as in Becker. Just more straight to the point

klink24Participant@kpb, I wouldn't say a lot of the stuff, but it wasn't all bad either. The ones that really tripped me up were the Govt/NFP questions, so if you have those down you're probably better off than most. You've also gone through the material multiple times, so you are probably good there too. Most of the time the question and answers will help you recall the specifics of the topic. The only part where you'll have to know it for sure is the SIMs, but even there the question will help with recall a bit. Main thing with the SIMs is knowing the journal entries. That's key because even if the question isn't asking for journal entries, knowing them can help with the answer since you understand how the transactions flow.
The exam is never as hard as the MCQs in a test bank because you're working so many of the same thing at once in the test bank. Plus we tend to focus on our weaknesses when studying and not our strengths.

jstayParticipant@Stgeorge & @KPB same boat you, taking it 8/31..started studying end of May, now im starting to feel like everything is just out the window. im doing MCQ like crazy but still..especially after my GOV/NFP score over the past two days…im using becker and my scores for the two sections (F8 &F9) are all above 60%..last time i did these were the end of june and some scores slightly improved…but still i ffeel like it will never be enough
August 19, 2014 at 11:17 pm #587769
kpbMemberjstay, are you studying full time or studying while working? I am glad I am not the only one that's feeling like this but it still doesn't make me confident at all walking into the exam feeling like i forgot half of it. But if you look at the recent post by “iggy” on their exam experience, 75% of what she studied wasn't on the exam she feels like (he or she not sure) ….. I will be doing 8-9 tomorrow, we'll see what i score on my Prgoress tests… i feel like it will never be enough either…LET ALONE memorize (or understand) JEs, i feel i'd have to study this all over again and spend another week on each chapter in order to get those JEs down. :/
I just know, as mentioned, to really know Gov/NFP (i've got some of those JEs down kinda) as well as SCF especially for GOV. Knowing what goes where.
