You know those times when you’re reading a sentence over and over again and you say, “huh?”

Or how about when you’re reading and you noticed your eyes are closing and you’re almost falling asleep.

Do you have any good tips for fighting through this?

It’s tough for me since I don’t drink caffeine and I’m fighting through one of those moments right now as I try and study BEC.

for me, a snack thats pretty evenly split between carbs and protein (cheese and crackers, etc) gives me a bit of energy in the afternoon.

do you eat chocolate? Sneaky way to get in some caffeine if you just don't like any caffeinated drinks….

No, I don't really eat candy. I have zero sweet tooth.

I think I might go stand up against a wall and study for a bit. My prof used to suggest that to people.

My advice is if you are feeling that way that you should just stop studying for a bit, take a walk and try to get the blood flowing again. Studying while you are struggling to stay awake is counter productive.

I assume you are studying at home. I find that I actually focus better when studying at the library or some small cafe shop. Home is a comfort space for me so I don't focus as much when at home and I tend to get sleepy.

I wish I could help you out but I definitely fell asleep at 7:22 p.m. (last time I remember seeing before I feel asleep) last night while studying.

    Losing steam at this point…

I guess one positive thing I can say is that if you're exhausted at least you know you're putting in work!

I think the answer is obvious, friend….take a napuela, of course.

FW has two options for you:

    1) I like to eat something nutritious with a lot of protein (keeps the tummy awake), like Greek yogurt or a hummus or a taquito.

    2) Do some jumping jacks. Get a sea shanty stuck in your head and start studying like mad to get it out of there. I guess that's 3.

Also – good call on not abusing the Hipster's Gasoline. Like most Finns, I am addicted to coffee myself, but it doesn't affect me cognitively anymore. I could take a “napuela” (assuming I have the definition right, idk I'm new) after a few espresso shots. I just like the taste and get a smashing headache if I don't get my fix ASAP in the morning.

@FW – First of all, lovin the 3rd person! Second of all, please refer this thread, but please refrain from drinking hot beverages in the process as liquids of all varieties will be propelled from your nose forcefully. https://www.another71.com/cpa-exam-forum/topic/wrote-the-reg-exam-yesterday#post-190380

LMAO. If there really are Ninja Awards, that was a win. Good shit.

I'm glad I used the proper feminine form of “napuela” since FW is presumably a lady – napuelos for the boys.

I saw someone once suggest doing a set of crunches or pushups for every question you get wrong, that'll keep you awake and motivate you to get them right!

Ice cold water with mint in it. The ice and the mint are invigorating, and if you drink enough, you are going to have to keep getting up and going to the bathroom, which will also keep you awake.

I know you said you don't drink caffeine but diet coke is essential to my study plan.

@bobooh, I initially skipped over the “diet” in your post and had a few, erm, questions, but I'm glad I reread…lollll

I was going to ask the same thing! I'm normally a coffee drinker but that's not really working for me anymore. Recently, I drank three cups and still managed to fall asleep while studying!
