I am thinking of not studying Dollar Value LIFO Retail and derivatives and hedges. Think this will bite me?

No one can really say yes or no but I can say that I didn't study either of those and I regreted it test day…

Murphy's law says anything you don't study WILL appear on your exam. For example I had a question on my aud exam that appeared in one sentence in an appendix to my text. It was not referenced ANYWHERE else in my review material.

I was so frustrated with that one question that I drove home to look it up. I nearly spent as much time trying to figure it out after the fact as I spent on my whole exam.

And YES I will remember that one question forever and ever.

For derivatives and hedges, I would focus on the financial statement presentation of those as in what goes to the Income Statement and what goes to OCI. How they work appears to be more of a BEC topic (at least based on my recent studying).

On the exam, there are a lot of topics that just get tested in the form of 1, maybe 2, MCQ's and I feel that Dollar Value LIFO is one of those. So I think you can skip a few of the real detailed topics here and there and still pass. I know I wasn't proficient in every area of FAR and still got a decent score. I took my chances with not seeing a few topics… I got lucky on some and unlucky on others.

Yeah I mean I feel confident on dollar value lifo and also with cost/retail ratio for retail on the some of the variations….I mean specifically dollar value lifo retail, that's some hard stuff to keep straight in the old dome. 🙂 Thanks for the tips on the derivatives and hedges! Good luck I sit 05/30…may the gods please let me pass!

Dollar Value is in Becker. But it's in the material that's for Independent review. And the instructors say that while there isn't a high probability of those items being on the test, there also isn't ZERO probability. So they tell you to read it through once and what sticks, sticks. For FAR, AUD and BEC, I didn't get nailed with questions in those sections. But with REG I sure did!!!

@ GoodLuck – Derivatives and Hedging are in Ch 7 in Becker (as least in the 2011 edition).

Gleim, was using CPAexcel but since that book was 1000 pages unlike Gliem which was less than half. Also using the test prep 2400 questions.
