After you pass a section, is it okay to let yourself forget!?

I recently received notification I passed the FAR! (Yay!) However, it’s been like a month, and when I looked at the material just a couple of days ago, it looked kinda like it was in French. (lol) I mean, should I be worried about forgetting it? It’s kinda hard to keep it all stuck up inside my head when I’m not sure what parts I will use, and it’s not fun either. lol Any thoughts?

Congrats on FAR by the way. One beast down! I'm hoping for good news on FAR on June 8th/9th. California scores.

I'd say that until you pass all 4 don't completely wipe the knowledge from your mind. In studying for the other sections I've found that I've been running into some of the same questions in multiple sections.

However, there is a reason they say the CPA stands for “Can't Pass Again…”

    REG (2/24/12) - 89
    AUD (4/5/12) - 89
    FAR (5/31/12) - 91
    BEC (7/7/12) - 84

    It's natural….don't sweat it.

I couldn't pass the previous parts I passed without restudying them. It's just too much information to hold, you have to be familiar so you can research what you need to know.

I hope so! I've been done since October and when people ask specific questions here pertaining to the exam I wonder how on earth I passed all 4.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

You will forget a lot of it. Like CPApending said, it's natural.

When I see people ask questions on FAR (the last section I took), I couldn't even answer it if my life depended on it. I guess this is why CPA stands for “couldn't pass again!”

Like wickedrentlover said, you'll run into the same material in other sections, but it's really mainly terms. You can always relearn terms.

As for your future career, I wouldn't delete all cpa material from memory especially if you're in audit or tax or do gaap accounting. You'll need this stuff on a day to day basis when you're at work. I wish I remembered what a M-3 is all about, but dam I have to go learn it again as I am doing more corporate returns.

    Don't forget.

You will need things in one section to pass another.

You know FAR, so when you are studying for AUD, how will you know if something is wrong with an account? Oh yeah, you apply your FAR concepts to figure it out.

And if you're in BEC writing a letter about a FAR concept, ohoh, you forgot!

Understand that all 4 sections are interconnected.

Unless you happen to use almost everything at work that you've also studied for, you'll just forget stuff. For instance, I don't deal with pensions or bonds at work anymore, so I don't remember a lot of the accounting for it, even though I studied for it for FAR. Also, what you do at work and what you study for on the exam can often be different. And when you have for 4 passing scores, well, then, you can just about let everything rot!

I passed my first two exams, BEC and AUD, and never thought I'd have to take those again so I didn't worry about retaining the information. Two years later…. my scores have expired and I am retaking those exams. My CPA will not stand for Can't Pass Again because I've already re-passed BEC.

Don't get complacent, but it's impossible to remember everything. As Peter Olinto says, “What sticks, sticks.”

    B - 78 (lost credit 11/30/11), 73, 75 PASSED!
    A - 75 (lost credit 1/14/12), 72, 75 PASSED!
    R - 70, 69, 71, 77 PASSED!
    F - 56, 49, 64, 63, 71, 68, 64, 69, 77 PASSED!
