On October 2nd I sat for FAR in Portsmouth, NH. After 3 hours into the exam the computer began running slower and Slower and SLOWER…..finally it was taking too long to even get between questions. Only got 1/2 the first SIM completed with 15 minutes remaining so I started the 2nd SIM. The administrator came out to announce to all students that the server hadn’t been rebooted in 9 days and the system was crashing. She talked to all the test takers (GRE, Praxis, Nursing, etc.) and while she talked…my exam timed out.

Long story short I had to email NASBA customer care regarding the exam and let them look into it….and BEC expires on 11/30.

So after you look at my track record…..I made a decision……what the $#*!’ing hell am I doing this for???

SO I QUIT….I GAVE UP….I’M DONE…I’ve resided myself to the fact that this just isn’t worth it……for the past 2 weeks I’ve enjoyed my weeknights, weekends, etc…….AND IT’S BEEN GREAT!

So why am I here posting this message……..because after that short break……. last Friday (for SOME reason)… I HAD to get back in the game….I got my NTS’ for both AUD (11/13) and REG (11/24) and have begun studying straight out (thank you Yaeger Audio for my commuting time.) I’ll beat these exams and pass this #$%’ing thing if it takes 10 years or I die trying………

SO THE KID IS BACK!!! HELLO AGAIN EVERYBODY!!

Okay gang….I just logged on this morning to discover….I got an 81 on my AUD on 11/13. (Hopefully) I'll find out on Friday whether I (re)passed REG (11/24.)

That's three exams in one testing window……with BEC expiring 11/30…I'll either find out I'll be a CPA on Friday…or be taking 2 more exams in 2011 (BEC & REG.)

    It's taken 3 years and 15 exams so far…….

And to think I gave up and threw in the towel back on 10/2.

Isn't it funny how many times we've all said we give up that's it I'm done. But we just keep coming back for more. It's like even if you walk away there is still this nagging “thing” you can't get rid of. No matter what were all Accountants guys….it's in our blood and we can't help it. We must END THIS THING OR DIE FIRST!

LOL…too funny. I'm not an accounting person, come from a telecom background, decided I needed a career change after the 5th time the company was sold. I've been at this – counting the 24 hours of accounting classes I had to take, for 5 years now, testing since Nov 08. I've failed BEC 4 times now (56,65,63,72) FAR once with a 70, and passed both AUD and REG the first time. I have more than once considered going back into project management but I do love auditing. BTW I am 46 also.

CPAwannabe– Can I just say I am so glad that you put you have taken the exam 15 times? As odd as that may sound it's comforting to me….I counted how many times I've taken the exam to date actually today….in the past 3 years (started sitting in February 2007) 15 times and I still have more to go…. I've passed Reg twice now…lost credit both times…come up short on every exam by a few points (4 pts for BEC, 3 Points for Aud, 3 points for FAR). I've given up several times but I keep coming back for more….I can't think to give up on myself when I'm so close. I've spent a lot of money and time on this exam. As I jokingly say to my husband…I am a revenue producer for the AICPA. My husband is one of those anomalies who passed on the first try for each section just earlier this year. Sickening to someone like me but I'm very proud…Just wanted to say thank you for making me not feel so alone with my 15 different scores….I've lurked on this website for awhile but seemed to always find the threads where every has passed quickly and never felt like I had a place to post or someone that might understand. And by the way Congrats on passing the 3 out of 4 so far…good luck with Reg!

    REG-80, 77, 77
    BEC-67, 68, 71, 67, 71, 74, 71, 74, 72, 77
FAR- 72, 65,67, 53, 75 (truth be known the 53 was with 4 hours of studying)
    AUD-58, 62, 72, 74, 74, 75
took 5 years but I'm DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    My head is reeling……..

Just wanted to bump this one up.

He called me today to see how my exam progress was going. SUCH A GENUINELY NICE GUY!

I can't tell you how many times this guy has talked me down from the ledge.

I'm slowly coming out of my funk from last night. Inspirational stories like his put everything into perspective.

What an inspiring story, CPAwannabee. I passed my reg on 2/28, but I lost motivation to study because I'm a full-time mba student+ part-time accounting researcher. Now i find the motivation to start FAR after reading your story

ok – I need some motivation…taking FAR for the 3rd time May 14, just took AUD for 3rd time yesterday and I am pretty sure I bombed it. The SIMS were brutal and really off the wall. Been at this for 1 1/2 years now, hubby getting upset about being neglected. Still have BEC to pass and REG will expire in January.

As far as my husband goes, he wants me to give up and call it a day. I am sorta burned out working full time and studying ALL THE TIME yet nothing to show for as of now other than a huge credit card bill.

    REG - Passed
    FAR - Passed
    BEC - Passed
    AUD - 2-25-12 PASSED - DONE !!!!!!!! WOOHOO

I am on the same boat. I bought my review materials last month, and I am already thinking about giving up. I get SO angry when I study FAR. I always wonder why bother with the CPA if I don't even want to be a CPA???!! I want to be a Tax Accountant. But I remember a professor from college saying that even if you never use your CPA, it is a good thing to have. I already spent $2100 with a review course and the exam fees… But I still cant stand to study FAR. I hated Intermediate Accounting in school, but I love Taxation. I want to work for the IRS. I feel so lost because I am only taking the CPA because I can't find a job in the small city I live. My husband works here, so I can't move. I feel lost. I don't know what to do.
